Permanent Full TimeWe are looking for an AVP, Head of Model Risk, who will work in the Global Risk Function leading, designing, implementing, and maintaining the Model Risk Management framework across all regions and business units within Great West Lifeco. Our Model Risk Management framework is designed and applied consistently across the organization to ensure we are effectively managing the risks associated with developing, implementing, changing and using models. We continually evolve our frameworks with changes in the external environment (stakeholder expectations, risk landscape, regulatory requirements, industry, etc.) and the internal environment (the Company's business strategies, use of technology, etc.). This is a critical time within model risk as the adoption of AI within our Company and the industry is accelerating.What you will do:
  • Design and Lead an Effective Model Risk Management Framework: Lead the development, implementation, and communication of the Model Risk Management (MRM) framework. Ensure ongoing education and engagement of key stakeholders to embed best practices across the organization.
  • Governance, Oversight, and Challenge: Oversee the governance of model risk, establishing clear accountability and approval processes, and delivering timely and insightful risk reporting.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communication: Act as a key ambassador for model risk across the organization. Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear, consistent communication and collaboration to promote understanding, alignment, and accountability in model risk practices.
  • Leading Change through Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Identify and pursue opportunities to enhance the MRM framework, with a focus on emerging technologies and methodologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.
  • Team Development and Leadership: Lead a high-performing team by fostering a culture of growth, collaboration, and excellence. Empower employees to reach their full potential while driving operational efficiency and delivering impactful support to business decision-making. The Model Validation team led by Head of Model Validation reports into this role
What you will bring:
  • 10+ years' working in the financial services industry with knowledge of the industry/business, and exposure to actuarial, risk management, and accounting
  • FSA, FCIA, and CFA designations and knowledge of AI would also be an asset
  • Exceptional communication skills with experience presenting to executive management
  • Ability to influence through a variety of styles, balancing priorities while ensuring alignment with the enterprise risk management framework
  • Ability to build trusted relationships and collaborate across global, diverse and multi-functional teams
  • Ability to assess the internal & external environment in order to stay ahead of industry trends
  • Strong leadership skills including proven track record developing and leading high performing, diverse teams
  • Drive to set and deliver ambitious goals and maintain accountability for continuously driving improved performance, leading change and ensuring high standards
The base salary for this position is between $111,000 - $205,500 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
