- Develops and/or performs all formulation requirements on new formulas; includes creation of theoretical formulation, bench mix development, product description/formulation sheets, lab tests, stability testing/monitoring, color verification, etc.
- Writes and/or reviews procedures and specifications needed to support formulation activities.
- Documents test results, specifications, and final formula procedures in a standard format for including in the Master File.
- Participates in the technology transfer from pilot scale to commercial manufacturing runs.
- Communicates in a timely fashion all information regarding formulation, project status, raw material research, results, etc. to all appropriate individuals in Purchasing, Sales, Finance and Quality departments.
- Ensures the maintenance and/or adherence to good laboratory practices and all safety regulations within the laboratory and within the plant during scale up.
- Provides technical knowledge in guiding other formulators, chemists and technicians in the R&D Lab.
- Proactively monitors the industry landscape and Apollo’s formulation database to ensure Apollo’s formulations are price competitive.
- Proactively ensures the proper transition of technologies from the Laboratory to Compounding, Production, Quality, Purchasing and other affiliated departments to ensure timely and successful first batch manufacturing and launches.
- Keeps abreast of current trends, practices, developments and regulatory changes which would impact products, procedures, or formulations and communicates new or revised requirements to the R&D Department.
- Evaluates new and alternative raw materials for functionality and stability.
- Use creativity in allowing Apollo to compete in any or every personal care arena desired, creating new innovative product formulations in line with Apollo’s business strategy.
- Work with the appropriate departments to ensure proper scale up and first batch quality
- Ensure formulations are competitively priced
- Proactive formulary development to generate intellectual property assets
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field (post-secondary education required).
- 1–3 years of progressive laboratory experience in formulation development, preferably within the personal care or cosmetics industry.
- Solid understanding of laboratory techniques, stability testing, and good laboratory practices (GLP).
- Experience with scale-up processes and technology transfer to manufacturing is an asset.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- Ability to research and evaluate raw materials, industry trends, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Creative mindset with the ability to contribute to innovative product development and cost-effective formulations.
