- Responsible for identifying departmental activities that require a risk or privacy assessment and independently works with stakeholders to develop policies, processes, and tools to mitigate and prevent risk and ensure compliance with the protection of privacy
- Independently contacts stakeholders, collects information, performs an assessment, and provides advice on risk and privacy issues with University policies, current legislation and regulatory requirements
- Support leaders in identifying, developing, prioritizing, and implementing risk management and information privacy strategies and plans
- Prepares and presents information on risk management and privacy compliance to stakeholders
- Liaises with professional regulatory bodies to discuss regulatory compliance requirements
- Supports the Department Custodians with the collection, use and disclosures in compliance with the HIA
- Administrator for Department's secure email (Brightsquid) and Alberta Electronic Health Record (Netcare)
- Coordinates and maintains Information Manager Agreements (IMAs) with Custodians
- Creates and maintains Custodian and Researcher HIA agreements and access for patient information related to clinical research.
- Provides research privacy information and works with stakeholders to create, develop policies, procedures, standards of practice, and guidelines for the department
- Coordinates, collects the requirements, training of all visitors and volunteers to gain access to the department, and enters information into Campus Solutions.
- Review and analyze departmental contracts and agreements. Works closely with University's General Counsel, Insurance & Risk, and the Information Privacy Offices and external organizations on editing the terms and conditions to manage the university's contractual liability and meet the department's operational needs.
- Works closely with the Placement Coordinator, College of Health Sciences (CHS) providing advice on multi-faculty placement agreements and student placement documentation requirements as relates to Dentistry specific program requirements.
- Coordinates all departmental risk management-related records management activities. Responsible for Privacy & Security Reviews (PSR) and oversees and tracks submission of Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA) to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta (OPIC).
- Related post-secondary diploma or university degree. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- 3 years of relevant privacy and compliance experience.
- Professional college licensure is required (E.g. RDA, RDH, RN)
- Detailed knowledge of the Health Information Act (HIA), the Health Professions Act (HPA), and the Access to Information ACT (ATIA) and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA).
- Experience interpreting basic legal contract language required.
- Experience in a busy dental environment is an asset
- Proficiency using electronic health records and secure email programs. Netcare experience is an asset.
- Capacity to prioritize work, make independent decisions based on previous experiences, established precedents, official policies, and act in a proactive manner.
- Ability to work with a high level of professionalism and maintain confidentiality when working with highly sensitive information.
- Demonstrated success in consulting, engaging, and building relationships with stakeholders.
- Experience with university policies and processes is an asset.
- Ability to work independently within team settings and exercising independent judgment and problem solving.
- Strong communication skills both verbal and writing.
- Familiarity with PeopleSoft/Campus Solutions; Alfresco, Google Suite, Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational skills.
