As our Labour Relations Specialist you will be responsible for managing a range of organizational labour relations activities, including manpower planning, grievance administration, union relations, attendance management, and providing support for arbitration and contract negotiations. You will report directly to the Manager, Labour Relations.Location:Onsite, Cambridge ONYour Day to Day as our Labour Relations Specialist:Grievance Administration
- Investigate and resolve grievances in accordance with the collective agreement.
- Advise management on outcomes and ensure proper documentation and follow-up.
- Administer the USW Collective Agreement fairly and provide guidance to management.
- Support collective bargaining preparation and, when required, participate in negotiations.
- Investigate misconduct allegations and advise management on disciplinary actions.
- Facilitate related meetings and documentation for progressive discipline processes.
- Foster positive relationships between BWXT, the Union, and supervisors.
- Maintain open communication and proactively minimize formal grievances.
- Support workforce planning, recruitment, and internal hiring in line with the collective agreement.
- Assist with orientation, onboarding, probation, and training for unionized employees and supervisors.
- Coordinate layoffs, recalls, and “bump” interviews while maintaining accurate records.
- Ensure fair assessment of employee eligibility for recall.
- Administer the attendance program, track data, prepare reports, and facilitate employee meetings.
- Maintain employee records, updates, and reporting in SAP, including status changes and shift assignments.
- Collaborate with disability management teams and external providers to support accommodations and return-to-work plans.
- Manage records, support communications, and assist with supervisor training and development initiatives.
- University degree and/or Human Resources Management Diploma complemented by Industrial Relations experience.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in labour relations procedures in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of employment standards, human rights legislation and BWXT Canada policies and procedure.
- In-depth knowledge of the Collective agreement interpretation and administration.
- Collective bargaining preparation and experience is considered an asset.
