This position is intended for new graduates or early‑career professionals who are interested in developing a strong foundation in consulting‑based instrumentation and control system design.The successful candidate will work as part of an integrated, multidisciplinary design team, supporting projects across North America. Our portfolio includes power generation and distribution, oil & gas, mining, renewable energy, and energy transition projects. This role offers structured mentorship, progressive responsibility, and exposure to a wide range of industrial facilities and project types.Key ResponsibilitiesUnder the guidance of experienced engineers and technologists, responsibilities will include:Assisting with the preparation and coordination of technical specifications and engineering documentationSupporting the evaluation, selection, specification, and design of instrumentation and control systemsApplying applicable codes, standards, and client‑specific requirementsDeveloping design deliverables using sketches, diagrams, redlines, and electronic modelsPreparing instrument datasheets, material requisitions, and procurement support documentationParticipating in technical bid evaluations (TBEs) and vendor drawing and submittal reviews, including responses to RFIsAssisting with the development of Construction Work Packages (CWPs) and providing construction‑phase support, as requiredCoordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders, including clients, vendors, and contractorsParticipating in client meetings, design reviews, and value engineering sessionsPerforming basic to intermediate instrumentation and control calculations using company and manufacturer toolsSupporting quality control and design verification activitiesManaging multiple tasks while meeting project schedules and budgetsTechnical Exposure and DeliverablesThe successful candidate will gain experience supporting the preparation of:Instrument datasheets and instrument indexInstrument selection and sizing calculationsShutdown keys and control narratives, alarm settings and logic documentationControl system architecture concepts and network layoutsI/O lists, wiring schematics, and loop documentationP&ID development and interdisciplinary coordinationHAZOPs (Hazard and Operability Studies) and other process hazard analysis activitiesDesign and constructability reviews and field support activitiesVendor package and equipment documentationConstruction work packages and project communicationsQualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess the following:Eligibility for registration with a professional or technical governing body (such as APEGA or ASET)Strong interest in instrumentation and control systems for industrial and energy applicationsFoundational knowledge of engineering principlesAbility to produce accurate, well‑organized work and perform self‑checks for quality and completenessStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environmentProficiency with Microsoft Office, and a demonstrated ability to learn software tools efficientlyAutoCAD familiarity or experience is considered an asset.Education and ExperienceAssociate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent in Industrial Automation or Instrumentation & ControlsNew graduates are encouraged to applyInternship, co‑op, or summer experience in industrial, energy, or consulting environments is considered an assetWhy Join Our TeamStructured mentorship from experienced instrumentation and controls professionalsExposure to diverse projects and industries early in your careerA clearly defined path for technical and professional developmentOpportunity to develop strong fundamentals in engineering design, QA/QC, and project delivery within a consulting environmentThis description is not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee and other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned or may be changed at any time with or without notice.Stantec is a place where the best and brightest come to build on each other's talents, do exciting work, and make an impact on the world around us.   • Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$50,100.00 - $67,600.00 Annually
  • Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$53,100.00 - $71,700.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
