The Opportunity:Our manufacturing client, with a production facility located in Stoney Creek, Ontario is currently seeking a DCS Technologist to join their Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, designing, and installing control system software to support optimal plant performance. This is a hands-on opportunity to work with distributed control systems (DCS), PLCs, SCADA systems, and a variety of operational technologies.What You'll Be Doing:
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting SCADA, DCS, and PLC systems, including all Operational Technology (OT) and communication systems.
  • Supporting access control and monitoring of critical system resources.
  • Repairing, maintaining, configuring, and installing controls and instrumentation equipment.
  • Leading lifecycle management and planning for control system equipment to ensure long-term reliability.
  • Collaborating with maintenance teams to perform critical work with minimal downtime.
  • Providing troubleshooting support to operations teams to resolve process control issues.
  • Managing and administering change requests to control and communication systems under the management of change (MOC) process.
  • Maintaining accurate and current documentation on DCS configurations, changes, and maintenance.
  • Participating in PHA, HazOps/LOPA, and shutdown reviews to improve safety and reliability.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of engineering projects as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ensuring all work complies with safety, regulatory, and industry standards.
What You'll Need to Be Successful:
  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in software engineering, instrumentation control, automation, electrical, process engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with and programming DCS and PLC systems in an industrial setting.
  • Hands-on experience with ABB 800xA and Allen Bradley PLCs.
  • Strong understanding of industrial networking and communication protocols such as Modbus and Ethernet/IP.
  • In-depth knowledge of process control systems and instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with Advanced Process Control (APC), optimization techniques, and loop tuning.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control logic diagrams.
  • Experience commissioning and starting up DCS/PLC-based systems is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
  • Previous operations experience is an asset.
