In support of The Mustard Seed’s mission statement, the Cedar Point, Grande Prairie Housing Manager gives leadership to the Supportive Housing program area that helps individuals move out of homelessness, into a safe and healthy place of their own, and into a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. The Housing Team also works with formerly individuals experiencing homelessness to give them the skills and support necessary to sustain long-term housing, while helping them transition into the local community. The Housing Team works collaboratively and in partnership with other Mustard Seed program areas and other agencies to achieve this end. The role of the Housing Manager is to ensure the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual safety of residents and client support workers on-site; encourage resident independence, community engagement, and housing stability; and to assess and reassess the changing needs of staff, residents, and programs.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee and manage housing programs in Grande Prairie; create and implement programming for Housing; fulfill all program requirements and outcomes as per TMS’s contract with designated service provider for the supportive housing project.
- Deliver all Housing programs with excellence, ensuring all programs follow The Mustard Seed’s Human Resources strategy, policy and practices
- Work collaboratively in coordinating and facilitating program planning that reflects the mission and strategic direction of the organization
- Work closely with the Sr. Director of Affordable Housing and Property Management, and peer Housing Managers, in leading the overall TMS Housing Stream in mission/vision/values/strategic plan fulfillment
- Build an effective staff team through empowering leadership and consistent staff development
- Conduct research on trends for current and future program development
- Develop and maintain partnerships with churches, non-profit organizations, public and private institutions, and government agencies to support existing and new programs
- Manage the ongoing evaluation of Housing programs, by tracking, reporting, and assessing relevant statistics, including the organization wide Housing measurable outcomes
- Ensure the appropriate administration of all aspects of program development and delivery
- Ensure acceptable living standards are maintained in all Housing Programs, and that they operate within Mustard Seed policy and budget
- Initiate and administer insurance claims with insurers based on policy
- Support the involvement of volunteers by modeling The Mustard Seed values, in alignment with volunteer strategy, policy and practices
- Assist the Communications department with connecting with housed guests for media interviews
- Oversee Tenant Management and work with Property Management, as per Permanent Supporting Housing Tenancy Act and The Mustard Seed policies, ensuring systems and procedures are in place
- Work alongside the TMS Grant Department in obtaining applicable grants for the Housing Team, and manage corresponding reports and statistics
- Participate in staff training (e.g. First Aid, safeTALK, NVCI) and attend monthly general meetings as required
- Required to abide by all Health & Safety protocols including completing a report for all incidents that occur, including near misses, in a timely manner.
- Make sound decisions in ambiguous or risky situations
- Ensure systems and procedures are in place to support productivity and efficiency of assigned teams
- Manage, support and provide spiritual direction and leadership to staff involved in executing the Department’s functions
- Provide leadership and training to the Housing team, ensuring best practices and a positive team dynamic are nurtured and maintained; monitor workloads and actively encourage team members to contribute to, and extract value from others
- Develop a nurturing and conducive environment that recognizes the physical emotional, mental and spiritual needs of residents and staff
- Be actively involved in team building and managing conflicts to ensure a cohesive team
- Other duties as may be assigned
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing staff and budgets
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership role, preferably in a not-for-profit or social enterprise environment in leadership
- Knowledge of supportive/affordable housing programs including administrative, operations, and policy aspects
- Excellent interpersonal skills, public relations and group facilitation skills required
- Exceptional conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage crises
- Proven ability to network and build strategic partnerships
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint, and other relevant software.

- The Mustard Seed Housing Program is a 24/7 operation which requires the Housing Manager to carry and delegate on call responsibilities
- Some travel may be required, specifically to partnering organizations and between Mustard Seed sites. Company vehicles are available for booking. Driving personal vehicle for business purposes may also be required
- Time in excess of regular working hours may be required on occasion
- This is primarily an office position; office space will be provided. Periods of sitting, standing climbing stairs are required as part of this role
- As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees sign an agreement indicating that they will respect and not detract from our Statement of Faith.
- Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- Employment Security Check and/or Vulnerable Sector Check is required
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, Driver’s Abstract and $2,000,000 liability insurance
- Access to a reliable vehicle
This position also requires the use of a company vehicle.
