We are seeking a Lead Ground Control Engineer to oversee ground control, rock mechanics, and geological engineering activities within an underground salt mining operation. Reporting directly to the Engineering and Capital Manager, this role functions with a high degree of autonomy and provides both technical leadership and project oversight.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Lead and supervise a team of rock mechanics and geological engineers and technicians in developing and executing mine plans, programs, and strategies.
- Manage capital projects and associated contractors.
- Support drilling, seismic programs, and geologic modeling initiatives.
- Oversee underground exploration programs including diamond drilling, GPR, and seismic activities.
- Support mineral reserve estimation based on annual exploration programs.
- Assist in subsidence monitoring, data collection, and modeling updates.
- Oversee rock mechanics instrumentation monitoring, ground condition audits and inspections, blasting, and rehabilitation planning.
- Manage execution of the ground control inspection and monitoring program through supervision of Ground Control Technicians and Auditors.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to design and execute engineering project backlogs.
- Contribute to the development of strategic plans, mine plans, and project plans.
- Maintain and enhance ground control and rock mechanics instrumentation networks.
- Drive KPI development, measurement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Stay current on industry best practices and pursue innovation in mining and ground control methods.
- Communicate effectively across departments to ensure clarity, safety, and operational alignment.
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent education.
- Minimum 10 years of Mining Engineering experience with a focus on Rock Mechanics, Geology, and Ground Control.
- Underground mining experience required.
- Soft rock mining experience considered a strong asset.
- Strong computer proficiency and experience with key mining software systems including AutoCAD, Deswik, Leica Geosystems, VnetPC, and Ventsim.
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
- Experience managing both salaried and hourly employees preferred.
- Experience working within a unionized workforce is an asset.
- Strong leadership capability and ability to operate autonomously in a 24/7 operational environment.
