- Drafting, reviewing and revising leases, renewals, amending agreements, transfers, license agreements, and temporary use agreements with attention to landlord’s legal, business and operational obligations and liabilities.
- Providing interpretation of lease and other legal documents to the industrial and retail leasing team and the property management team.
- Where appropriate, recommending involvement of external counsel due to complexity of documentation or potential for dispute.
- Advising internal clients, including property management, on the handling of tenant defaults and terminations, use of bailiffs, dealing with abandoned property and all other legal disputes with tenants or former tenants.
- Ensuring that lease documentation is legally enforceable including oversight of the execution process.
- Experience or a demonstrated interest in commercial leasing and a minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience.
- Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B.) or a Juris Doctor (J.D.) required.
- Good standing with the Law Society of Ontario or equivalent and licensed to practice law in Canada with a willingness to become licensed in Ontario required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English
