Salary: Starting at $145,100, (based on a 35-hour work week and commensurate with individual education and experience, as it relates to the position).
Location: Hybrid at DUC head office located at Oak Hammock Marsh near Stonewall, MB
Closing Deadline: Position open until filledWhat You Will DoWe’re seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Director of IT to join our IT leadership team. This is a strategic role responsible for the overall direction, security, and reliability of DUC’s information technology environment. This role will ensure that technology systems effectively support conservation programs, fundraising operations, finance and governance while advancing modernization, cybersecurity, and risk-management initiatives. The ideal candidate thrives in a mission-driven, resource-conscious environment and brings a strong balance of strategic planning, operational discipline, and collaborative leadership.Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all information technology systems and services in alignment with Ducks Unlimited Canada’s mission, strategic plan, and risk framework
  • Serve as the senior authority on IT strategy, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and digital enablement
  • Advise executive leadership on technology risks, opportunities, and investment priorities
  • Report and advise CIO and CFO, through status reports, meetings and overall transparency of all IT operations.
  • Play a key role in supporting the Change Advisory Board and fostering a risk-aware culture
  • Work collaboratively with senior management to ensure IT is aligned with DUC’s strategic goals
  • Ensure the security, reliability, and stability of enterprise systems, networks, cloud platforms, and endpoints
  • Lead cybersecurity strategy, incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning
  • Develop, implement, and maintain IT policies, standards, and operating procedures
  • Oversee systems supporting fundraising, donor management, finance, HR, conservation operations, data analytics, and collaboration tools
  • Ensure systems are fit for purpose, scalable, and compliant with privacy and regulatory requirements
  • Drive modernization initiatives to improve efficiency, resilience, and user experience
  • Lead enterprise IT projects, including planning, implementation, change management, and post-implementation review
  • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, procurement, and service performance
  • Ensure value for money and alignment with non-profit financial stewardship principles
  • Lead, coach, and support the IT team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement; take action on feedback from CIO and CFO.
  • Build internal capability while balancing managed services and external partnerships
  • Promote a service-oriented culture focused on enabling staff and programs
  • Mentoring staff to understand and follow industry best practices
  • Build strong working relationships across departments, with senior leaders, and with external partners
  • Translate organizational needs into practical, secure technology solutions
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
Requirements
  • Degree in a technology-related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and real-world experience
  • Senior-level experience in enterprise IT leadership
  • Demonstrated experience in cybersecurity, infrastructure management, and cloud services
  • Proven ability to lead complex IT projects and manage vendors and contracts
  • Experience developing IT policies, governance frameworks, and risk controls
  • Strong people leadership experience with the ability to mentor and develop staff
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Deep understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure, cloud platforms (Azure), enterprise applications (Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics), and network security
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, standards, and best practices
  • Knowledge of IT governance, risk management, and compliance in a privacy-sensitive environment
  • Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and persuasively to non-technical audiences, including the Board of Directors and senior leadership
  • Skilled at building and sustaining collaborative relationships across departments, with vendors, and external partners
  • Service-oriented communicator who listens actively and translates organizational needs into actionable technology solutions
  • Understanding of project management methodologies and change management principles
  • Occasional travel within Canada may be required
  • Must be onsite at HQ (Oak Hammock Marsh) three days per week
  • Additional hours may be required during critical project periods or organizational initiatives
Assets:
  • Security certifications such as CISSP, GIAC, or similar are considered assets.
  • Experience supporting fundraising systems, financial systems, or geographically distributed teams is an asset.
