Are you looking for a role that will challenge you?Our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) site located near Pinawa, Manitoba is looking for a Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist / Laboratory Quality Control Representative (LQCR) for the WL Performance and Quality department. The QA Specialist/LQCR reports to the QA/Quality Control (QC) Section Head, and is accountable to the Director of Business Operations Performance Assurance (PA) & QA. The QA Specialist provides support to ensure accurate and efficient implementation of the Quality Management System, and that WL remains in compliance with N286.6 (e.g., the annual QA Program Review, creating/updating QA documents (e.g., QA plan, procedures), self-assessments, effectiveness reviews, etc.). The QA Specialist also carries out Quality Control services for the WL Environmental Management (EM) Laboratories and analytical measurements accurately and efficiently, in support of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) site operations, regulatory compliance, decommissioning efforts, and other programs as necessary.Does this pique your interest?   • Providing decommissioning compliance support to WL Projects to ensure successful planning & execution of work scope.
  • Providing review & comment/consultation for WL Projects documents.
  • Contributing to the development of documentation.
  • Conducting Management Reviews, Surveillance, Self-Assessments and special assignments as required.
Laboratory Quality Assurance Officer
  • Working closely with the Environmental Management (EM) Laboratory to ensure compliance with the EM QA Plan which aligns with the ISO/IEC 17025 standard.
  • QA of Analysts data related to Quality Verification (QV) and verifying for accuracy.
  • Recording all QV test data in the appropriate electronic and paper files for required retention times.
  • Facilitating calibration and providing oversight for the maintenance of analytical equipment.
  • Tracking and evaluating calibration /checking results, posting results visibly on equipment, and ensuring that due dates are being met for the following equipment:
a. Laboratory Balances
b. Laboratory Weights
c. Pipettes
d. Thermometers
e. Refrigerators
f. ManometersQA Support for Purchase Requisitions
  • Providing procurement QA Oversight by reviewing QPS (Quality Program Selection) and SIF (Supplementary Information Form) forms.
  • Providing procurement QA oversight support for WL Site staff purchase orders.
  • Initiating/Reviewing/approving purchase orders for quality requirements including laboratory equipment, calibration and proficiency testing when required.

  • Understand QA principles and procedures applicable to design, procurement, construction, commissioning, operations and decommissioning.
  • Interpret quality assurance data arising from a number of different analytical measurement techniques, applied to very different specimen types, and for different end purposes.
  • Produce clear reports summarizing the performance of the Quality System.
  • Review or produce clearly written procedures and reports of measurement results.
  • Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills.
  • Write concisely to summarize the success of Quality Verification measurements.
  • Accurately document audit plans and findings.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and operate as independently as possible, while still maintaining close contact with staff (including laboratory personnel) and their supervisors.
  • Demonstrate good technical and organizational skills.
  • Work with frequently changing priorities and tight schedules.
  • Use good negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Assess situations objectively and recommend appropriate courses of action.
  • Motivate, coach, and use supervisory skills to encourage staff to implement the quality programs and assess their effectiveness.
  • Recognize and to handle hazardous materials safely.
  • Adapt and think outside the box in order to accurately interpret audit findings or recommendations.
  • Review QA documentation for errors or inconsistencies and suggest corrective actions to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Work independently to solve organizational and technical problems
  • Keep valuable reference materials safe from all possible harm.
  • Manage important data files carefully to avoid loss or corruption.
  • Order material and schedule work within his/her responsibility.
  • Demonstrate time-management capabilities to accomplish multiple tasks to tight schedules and to customer budget.
  • Accommodate the needs of several Quality programs simultaneously.
  • Ensure equipment used meets calibration schedules and materials used are within expiry dates.
  • Possess normal physical agility necessary to perform all aspects of the work.
  • Wear and work in protective clothing.
  • Obtain Group 3 Status.
Experience
  • Minimum 2 year’s specific experience with Quality Assurance principles and applications.
  • Sound understanding of Quality Assurance principles and procedures applicable to design, procurement, construction, commissioning, operations and decommissioning.
  • A good working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025, CSA N286.6, N286-12, N288.4 and N288.5, standards and specifications, or the ability to learn these.
  • Experience in QA verification, self-assessment and audit activities.
  • Experience in working with multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Experience in training and presentation skills would be considered an asset.
Education
  • Degree or Technology Diploma in a relevant Physical Science, graduate from a recognized institute of advanced technology and related working experience in a relevant field (e.g., nuclear operations or chemical engineering, construction and manufacturing, etc.), or equivalent experience.
Security clearance eligibility requirement
Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC) which has a minimum requirement of three (3) years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security”.Working Conditions:
  • Ability to work in an office environment, in laboratories and in-field.
  • Ability to work overtime.
