- Ability to read and interpret piping schematics/ diagrams.
- Utilizing written procedures for starting and stopping equipment.
- Isolating systems for maintenance using work permits and lock out tag out process.
- Performing water chemistry testing.
- Operating manual and pneumatic valves.
- Operating systems from remote location via Distributed Control System.
- Standing rotating watches outside normal working hours.
- Controlling and monitoring the continuous manufacturing processes to produce industrial gases and liquids.
- Operation of motors, compressors, pumps, distillation columns, distributed control system and process valves and taking field readings.
- Performing equipment inspections and preventative maintenance.
- Contribute at plant turnarounds as required
- Ability to work in Confined Space situations which includes being responsible for people working in a confined space, or as an attendant logging people in and out, plus monitoring the atmosphere of a confined space.
- Prepare and submit documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures, internal/external audits, management of change documents.
- Monitor activities of external contractors and conduct safety training for the contractors.
- Follow Lockout Tag Out Procedures and issue Safe Work Permits for any jobs being completed at the plant.
- Ability to travel to the US for training purposes and/or to support other plants for shift coverage in remote areas, as well as plant turnarounds.
- 3rd or 4th class operating engineer’s certificate
- High school diploma or equivalency
- 5+ years of experience in plant operations preferred
- Mechanical aptitude
- Instrumentation/electrical aptitude would be an asset
- Ability to read blueprints/schematics
- Track record of success on safety, environmental, and quality programs
- Computer skills required for distributed control systems operation as well as basic computer skills in data-processing (MS Office)
- 24/7 operation, however scheduled shifts are 8 hours Monday through Sunday with a requirement to work beyond normally scheduled shifts as required.
- Must have the ability to work after hours and weekend shifts on their own
- Flexibility to work required shifts during plant outages
