- This position is accountable to provide all High Voltage substation design, major equipment specification and ordering activities in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including all of AtkinsRéalis policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control.
- Develop underground cable routing, conduit and trench plan layout and sections for high voltage substation and distribution network.
- Perform design calculations/studies including cable pulling, photometric study, battery charger sizing, voltage drop and station service.
- Develop specification and performing bid evaluation of substation equipment including transformers, reactors, cap bank, circuit breakers, switchgears, instrument transformers, surge arresters and switches for HV and EHV substations.
- Review of type and routine test reports of substation equipment and provide expertise in selection of substation EHV/HV/MV equipment.
- Work closely with peers and other discipline designers to ensure accurate delivery that will meet utility Standards, industry standards and meet good engineering practices, policies, and procedures.
- Review technical qualification of vendors for the provision of materials and services used on projects.

- A degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from a recognized Institution.
- A minimum of +5 years strong experience as a Designer in the field of high voltage transmission and Distribution substation is considered to have gained the required experience of the position.
- Good knowledge of North American codes and standards such as CSA, IEEE and ANSI.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, inventor/ Revit, ProjectWise and Electronic Document Management System is a must.
- Preferred experience in high voltage substation design Standards.
- Experience in sizing of major equipment and selection of high voltage substation material.
- A Professional Engineering registered (or eligible for registration) with APEGA (Alberta) or EGBC (British Columbia).
