
Casual Paratransit Operators - Salmon Arm

- Safely operate a smaller accessible vehicle designed for transporting passengers with mobility aids (e.g., wheelchairs, scooters).
- Follow scheduled routes but remain flexible for door-to-door pickups and drop-offs based on bookings.
- Stops at designated points to load and/or unload passengers.
- Maintains a strong attendance record.
- Perform daily vehicle inspections and report any maintenance issues promptly.
- Assist passengers in boarding, securing mobility devices, disembarking safely and in challenging weather conditions.
- Provide courteous, compassionate and personnalized customer service and information about routes and schedules.
- Follow traffic laws, transit policies, and safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of trips, passenger counts, and incidents.
- Collect fares or manage fare system validation.
- Assumes any and all other duties assigned.
- Full-time training located in Vernon, BC.

- You have a valid Class 1, Class 2 or Class 4 Unrestricted license with air brakes endorsement.
- You have a clear driver abstract and adherence to safety regulations.
- You possess experience in operating accessible vehicles (e.g., wheelchair lifts, securement systems).
- You have strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
- You have the ability to assist passengers with disabilities and mobility devices.
- You possess good knowledge of city streets, traffic patterns and transit policies.
- You demonstrate strong physical condition and the stamina required to operate a bus for extended periods
- You are in compliance with background checks, medical fitness assessments, and drug screening.
- This is a casual, unionized position located in Salmon Arm.
- Shifts are subject to frequent changes based on operational needs.
