Senior Structural Engineer - Rail and Transit

- Lead in the execution and delivery of existing and new projects in a design-build environment for stations, rail, and/or bus maintenance facilities to advance design packages by providing value-added design solutions in conformance with operator requirements and client/end-user/project output specifications.
- Serve as a technical expert in the structural design of transit facilities, including buildings, retaining walls, heavy foundations, pre-cast concrete structures and structural steel structures.
- Demonstrate having experience in structural design of heavy transportation structures of similar type, including underground concrete structures and various support of excavation (SOE) systems.
- Ensure timely completion of project deliverables and able to manage several projects at once and determine priorities, including sound judgment and decisiveness.
- Produce engineering drawings and details from conception to final design, according to established standards and procedures for a wide variety of steel and concrete structures.
- Supervise CAD staff junior and support staff, prepare construction specifications tender and contract packages, and conduct site inspections of existing structures as well as those under construction
- Communicate and work with other project team members to provide quality service to clients to ensure that all documentation conforms to client/company standards.
- A technical leader and mentor to junior staff.
- Lead technical discussions and efforts in Ontario (and possibly in North America) to improve structural design implementation delivery and efficiency through streamlining design tools, software, procedures, and specifications.
- Assist in the preparation of effective proposals seeking targeted project opportunities
- Develop and implement QA/QC processes for project work
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario
- Minimum 10-15 years of diverse structural engineering experience with a focus on Rail and Transit type projects
- Excellent understanding of structural systems and practical design experience in designing stations, platforms, canopies, rail and/or bus maintenance facilities, earth retaining structures, and shallow and deep foundation systems, to name a few.
- Conversant with the National Building Code of Canada - NBCC and provincial building codes, CSA codes, AREMA, and the CHBDC.
- Ability to develop designs to comply with project-specific output specifications
- Ability to take ownership and accountability for completed work
- Strong influencing skills and the ability to develop effective and trustworthy relationships both with project teams and within the organization
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Strong computer skills including experience in structural analysis and design software such as SAP 2000, ETABS, S-FRAME, and ROBOT
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with a positive attitude
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Project management skills and budget and schedule controls
- Knowledge of BIM 360 and REVIT
- Knowledge of AASHTO and design guides of Rail and Transit Authorities such as CN, CP, TTC and Metrolinx
- Knowledge of the MTO Structural Manual, MTO Structural Rehabilitation Manual, and other Structures-related MTO technical publications
