Aecon Utilities is ready to become Canada's #1 utility construction provider and we're looking for a Apprentice Powerline Technicians to help us get there!As an Apprentice Powerline Technician, you will work alongside experienced Journeypersons to construct, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair overhead and underground electrical distribution systems. You will support field crews in ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with utility standards, electrical codes, and project requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist with the construction, installation, and maintenance of overhead and underground powerlinesSet poles, anchors, and hardware; install crossarms, insulators, and related line equipmentPull, splice, terminate, and test primary and secondary cablesSupport crews in energizing and de-energizing lines following proper switching proceduresInstall and maintain transformers, switches, cut-outs, fuses, and other distribution equipmentRead and interpret line diagrams, construction drawings, and utility standardsOperate and assist with bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other line equipment under supervisionPerform grounding, rigging, and handline operations safely and correctlyAssist in troubleshooting outages, identifying faults, and performing repairsMaintain tools, equipment, and materials in a safe and organized mannerFollow all safety protocols, including PPE requirements, job briefings, and hazard assessmentsSupport the crew in planning daily tasks and ensuring work areas are safe and compliantWork in various weather conditions, at heights, and in physically demanding environments * Performs other duties and responsibilities as required
  • Availability to travel and work on projects across Canada
  • Able to work a 21 and 7 shift out of town
Required Knowledge and ExperienceJourneyman Power Lineman Apprenticeship and Trade CertificateMinimum 2 years utility experience constructing, installing and maintaining overhead, underground, transmission, and distribution systemsThorough knowledge of Provincial Electrical Utilities Regulations and provincial specific Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and CodesStrong mechanical aptitude, physical strength, and manual dexterityComfortable working at heights, in bucket trucks, and in challenging outdoor conditionsAbility to lift, climb, crouch, kneel, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periodsUnderstanding of electrical safety, lockout/tagout, and utility worksite proceduresAbility to read and interpret technical drawings, line maps, and measurementsStrong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a crew environmentWillingness to work in remote locations, during storms, and on emergency restoration when requiredAbility to distinguish color-coded wiring and follow precise instructionsA valid driver's license (DZ or willingness to obtain is an asset)Salary range: The expected salary for this position is $26.00 -$41.00 per hourIndividual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience and unique skills.Aecon fosters diversity, inclusion and belonging within and across our organization.
