Closing Date: May 1, 2026Anticipated Start Date: June 22, 2026Successful candidates must be available to attend orientation on: Monday, June 22nd from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm (virtual) and Thursday, June 25th from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (in person).The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre has 12 site groups and 26 specialty clinics, and almost 3,000 staff who see over 400,000 patient visits every year. Its 800,000 square feet house 130 inpatient beds, 373,000 square feet of research space and 17 radiation treatment machines, making it one of the largest comprehensive cancer treatment facilities in the world and the largest radiation treatment centre in Canada.The clinical extern will be working as part of a team in the capacity of an unregulated health care provider. Clinical externs work in collaboration with a unit under direct and/or indirect supervision of a Registered Health Professional in the care environment.UHN is currently accepting applications from Nursing Students for the Extern program.Externs will be hired on contract, during which the Extern will work part time hours to a maximum of full-time hours (37.5 hours per week). The scheduling of these hours will be determined based on unit needs and may include day/evening/night and weekend shifts.Some of the Clinical Extern's responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Liaising with point of care nurses to identify patient care needs
- Acting as a resource to the interprofessional team where needed for patient care tasks, supplies, equipment, transportation
- Assisting with personal hygiene care, patient positioning and transfers
- Assisting with patient ambulation, toileting and with meals including feeding
- Assisting with patient and family communication
- Other duties as assigned to support the care team
- Must be a Nursing Student between 2nd and 4th year of a College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) approved Baccalaureate Nursing (BScN or BN) program
- Must be available a minimum of 18.75 hours per week, and have a flexible availability
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required
