- Review cost estimates in relation to the projected tax costs of assignments for the assignees in North America;
- Prepare applications for Certificate of Coverage and other required tax forms in the life cycle of assignees;
- Assist in the year-end payroll review and reconciliation process for the assignees in North America and prepare the required tax adjustments to compensation;
- Coordinate and assist in shadow payroll reporting and ensure payroll data reported is accurate and complete;
- Prepare/review tax reconciliations as required;
- Respond to payroll and tax related queries from employees or other key stakeholders;
- Review and analyze revenue and costs associated with international and domestic assignments;
- Research of tax laws and planning opportunities for a cost and tax effective assignment structure of Hatch’s global assignee population;
- May provide general taxation advice to employees as it relates to their International or Domestic assignments;
- Review and/or assist with the processing of invoices from tax service providers;
- Carry out ad hoc tasks and analysis, as required;
- Assist in the coordination of third party services relating to tax advice and tax return preparation for Hatch assignees;
- Work closely with Payroll and Accounting to maintain efficient systems and processes for the administration of international and domestic assignments.
- Minimum of 5-7 years in expatriate taxation and some expatriate payroll knowledge;
- Demonstrated experience in dealing with and advising on the taxation of Canadian and US employees’ inpatriate and expatriate assignments;
- Understanding of tax treaty application;
- Cross border payroll understanding;
- Experience in local and foreign compensation;
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel;
- Highly developed analytical skills and the ability to identify and deal with complex tax and payroll issues;
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy;
- Demonstrates initiative and a positive attitude centered around client service;
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
- Good written and oral communication skills;
- Good interpersonal skills;
- Sound time management and prioritization skills;
- Self-motivated.
- Direct work experience with expatriate taxation and cross border payroll is essential;
- Professional Accounting Designation and Accounting/Business degree preferred;
- Detailed knowledge of Canadian taxation system, in particular the foreign income provisions is essential;
- Working knowledge of other country’s tax systems an asset;
- Previous experience working with Engineering Services Industry is desirable, although not essential.
