Join our team and help us keep communities connected.The role of a Supervising Civil Engineer is to work as a team member on small and large projects under the guidance and direct supervision of a Senior Engineer to develop skills in evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering systems or products for a project.A Supervising Civil Engineer will perform a variety of tasks which may include assisting with the plans and designs of structures and facilities such as bridges, railroads, roads, airports, harbors, dams, irrigation projects, pipelines, tunnels, power plants and other projects.Your Key ResponsibilitiesDirect, organize and control work to administer medium to large structural contractsWork on moderate to complex problems requiring a thorough analysis of situation or dataSupervise a workgroupEnsure work on contracts proceeds according to plans, procedures, contract specifications and qualityCheck contract documents and review design for obvious errorsApprove work and progress paymentsCarry out inspection activities to ensure conformanceCheck and inspect contractor's work with drawings and related contract documentsConduct site surveys, confirming the scope of work, obtaining relevant information, equipment and materialsArrange site access and conduct surveyCompile field data in report form for review of the project designerPrepare contract specifications, construction staging and traffic arrangement schemesAssess scope of workMonitor staff levels, coaching junior staff as requiredManage the construction budget, act as liaison with clients and issue invoices as appropriateAddress contractor questions and misconceptions by working closely with the superintendent and other construction staff;Keep track of contractor activitiesAccountable for confirming that work on contracts proceeds per approved design and contract specificationsPerform work within established guidelines, procedures and practicesDemonstrated Construction Administration experience as a Contract Administrator or the equivalent of 5 or more similar Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) or municipal projects with construction values of least between $5,000,000 and $15,000,000 or greater is an assetEither registration as a Professional Engineer with PEO or as a Technician or Technologist with O.A.C.E.T.T. with Road Construction Contract Administration (RCCA) designationPrior MTO T131 and T131A Advanced Claims Dispute Resolution training is an assetKnowledge and understanding of Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPSS), Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD), Contract Documents including Agreement, General Conditions of Contracts, and Special ProvisionsKnowledge of construction survey and layoutKnowledge of construction methods and materialsKnowledge of the requirements of relevant legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety act and Environmental Protection ActExperience working with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access)Experience working with MS Project or Primavera is considered an assetExcellent verbal and written communication, time management, negotiation and conflict resolution, problem-solving, and organizational skillsA valid Ontario driver's license and access to a vehicle"Education and ExperiencePost-secondary degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology/Technician;Minimum 8 years experience in Road and/or Heavy ConstructionTypical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
