ABOUT THE POSITION
In collaboration with the executive production and production management teams, the Technical Director is responsible for assessing and executing all technical aspects of exhibitions and touring projects. This person allocates the necessary technical, human, and material resources to ensure the smooth execution of productions. Analytical, detail-oriented, and highly organized, the Technical Director coordinates assigned projects while ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, and production requirements.RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Evaluate and determine the technical requirements for each installation or event and prepare installation plans;
  • Liaise directly with technical teams at both local and international venues, collaborating to ensure successful project delivery;
  • Negotiate agreements with technical suppliers;
  • Actively participate in pre-production and production meetings;
  • Produce technical drawings, specifications, installation schedules, technical budgets, and related documentation;
  • Oversee the recruitment of technical personnel for each project;
  • Manage technical operations from setup to takedown while ensuring compliance with safety standards;
  • Implement strategies to optimize technical and material resources;
  • Monitor and update technical budgets and assist in administrative aspects of project management;
  • Promote a dynamic and motivated work culture within the team;
  • Support the artistic vision while considering feasibility and technical implementation;
  • Prepare technical specifications for supplier bids;
  • Review and approve fabrication plans from selected suppliers.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Academic Requirements: DEC
Professional Certifications Required: Forklift operation certification (asset). Valid driving licence, obligatory
Minimum Years of Experience: 4 to 7 years of experience in logistics, equipment management, and team supervision, including three years in a technical management position.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
  • Fluency in French and English, both spoken and written (required for international collaborations);
  • Excellent command of Autocad and/or Rhino and SketchUp;
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace tools;
  • Broad knowledge of technical departments (structure and set, rigging, sound, lighting, video, electricity, etc.);
  • General knowledge of virtual reality (asset);
  • Ability to collaborate with creative teams, adapt to changes, and perform under pressure;
  • Rigor, autonomy, strong organizational skills, and team spirit;
  • Flexible working hours and availability during installations, including international travel when needed;
  • Identify and analyze resources available for project realization;
  • Assign tasks and delegate responsibilities to project managers according to the established strategy;
  • Prepare contractual and administrative documents for the project in collaboration with internal teams;
  • Manage copyright and intellectual property issues during content development and production stages;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with professionals in the virtual reality and XR industry while actively participating in industry events;
  • Identify production and technical challenges related to projects, recommend and implement solutions to mitigate risks;
  • Assemble project teams and ensure team members understand their roles and expectations for each project;
  • Prepare presentation documents for current projects and those in development.
