Join our construction management team to collaborate on projects that are as technically challenging as they are impactful, creative, and fulfilling.Your OpportunityStantec's Infrastructure group provides planning, design and construction administration services for municipal infrastructure (watermain, storm, sanitary), roadway, road rehabilitation, transit/rail, bridge and related projects. We are currently seeking a Municipal Contract Administrator to complement our Field Services team, conducting fieldwork in the greater Toronto and surrounding area that will be out of the Markham office. The Municipal Contract Administrator will play a lead role in the delivery of inspection services with our Municipal clients. Due to expanding business opportunities in the local Toronto and elsewhere within the company, this position offers potential for growth in the areas of technical/professional development and project management. At times there may be some daily travel to perform administration and inspection-related duties in support of the Design Team and Engineer of Record projects.Your OpportunityStantec is looking to add bench strength to the Infrastructure group in Markham. Possibilities.Your Key ResponsibilitiesDirect, organize, and control work to administer medium to large contractsWork on moderate to complex problems requiring a thorough analysis of situation or dataSupervise a workgroupEnsure work on contracts proceeds according to plans, procedures, contract specifications and qualityCheck contract documents and review design for obvious errorsApprove work and progress paymentsCarry out inspection activities to ensure conformanceCheck and inspect contractor's work with drawings and related contract documentsConduct site surveys, confirming the scope of work, obtaining relevant information, equipment and materialsArrange site access and conduct a surveyCompile field data in report form for review of the project designerPrepare contract specifications, construction staging, and traffic arrangement schemesAssess the scope of workMonitor staff levels, coaching junior staff as requiredManage the construction budget, act as liaison with clients, and issue invoices as appropriateAddress contractor questions and misconceptions by working closely with the superintendent and other construction staffKeep track of contractor activitiesAccountable for confirming that work on contracts proceeds following approved design and contract specificationsPerform work within established guidelines, procedures, and practicesYour Capabilities and CredentialsDemonstrated Construction Administration experience as a Contract Administrator or the equivalent of 5 or more similarMinistry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) or municipal projects with construction values of least between $5,000,000 and $15,000,000 or greater is an assetEither registration as a Professional Engineer with PEO or as a Technician or Technologist with O.A.C.E.T.T. with Road Construction Contract Administration (RCCA) designationPrior MTO T131 and T131A Advanced Claims Dispute Resolution training is an assetKnowledge and understanding of Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPSS), Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD), Contract Documents including Agreements, General Conditions of Contracts, and Special ProvisionsKnowledge of construction survey and layoutKnowledge of construction methods and materialsKnowledge of the requirements of relevant legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Environmental Protection ActExperience working with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access)Experience working with MS Project or Primavera is considered an assetExcellent verbal and written communication, time management, negotiation, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and organizational skillsA valid Ontario driver's license and access to a vehicleEducation and ExperienceBachelor's degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology/TechnicianMinimum 10 years experience in Road and/or Heavy ConstructionTypical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
