ABOUT THE ROLEReporting to the Vice President, Royalty Collections the Director is responsible for the overall revenue and operational direction and the execution of strategic objectives of the Royalty Collections group. The Royalty Collections department is responsible for the domestic performing rights revenue in Traditional Media and New Media. The Director will exhibit a strong results-oriented approach, diligently tracking performance through the identification and regular monitoring of budgets and targets. The Director will be responsible for establishing and operationalizing measures and action plans, as well as rigorous performance management to ensure delivery of established objectives and continuous improvement of the department.The Director will be an expert in change management, performance management and coaching, talent development and service leadership. They will use their proficiency at cross functional collaboration, within an organization with diverse and multi-segmented objectives, to drive results.WHAT YOU’LL DO / KEY RESPONSIBILITIESOperations:
  • Liaise with executive team, SOCAN departments and other stakeholders to develop and execute Royalty Collections department objectives
  • Lead and manage operational teams to achieve revenue, cost control and operational targets
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures
  • Work in collaboration with the Reproduction Rights department to streamline processes
  • Work in collaboration with Entandem to ensure operational processes that are linked with SOCAN are streamlined
Revenue:
  • Oversee SOCAN’s domestic performing rights revenue for Traditional Media and New Media
  • Lead agreement negotiations with digital services in order to maximize SOCAN revenue and Member earnings
  • Lead the development of new tariffs and modifications to existing tariffs for submission to the Copyright Board
  • Develop and manage overall domestic budget and forecasts for Media and New Media
  • Liaise with the Reproduction Rights department on budget and forecasts for New Media
Strategy:
  • Develop and maintain high-level stakeholder relationship with trade associations, other collectives and international management rights organizations
  • Develop and execute strategic initiatives to support revenue growth
  • Staff engagement on corporate objectives and organizational values
  • Other duties, as required
WHAT YOU WILL BRING / QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum three (3) years of senior management (Director) and people leader experience
  • Experience in negotiating licensing agreements preferred
  • Knowledge of Copyright Act and tariffs
  • Operations and financial acumen including experience in budgeting, forecasting, target setting, operational planning and workforce management.
  • Demonstrated experience in analysis, planning and execution of strategic initiatives
  • Computer skills, required: MS Office, Internet Excellent communication skills – written and oral Strong interpersonal skills
