The AZ Company Explosives Driver is responsible for the safe and compliant transportation of explosives in and around the North Bay, ON region. This role ensures all deliveries and pickups are completed efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, and customer service. The driver will work closely with both internal teams and external customers to meet service expectations and regulatory requirements.
This position requires night driving as part of the role.Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport explosives in accordance with Transport Canada regulations, TDG requirements, and customer-specific safety policies.
- Perform efficient pickups and deliveries while maintaining a strong focus on security protocols.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections of all equipment.
- Verify the accuracy of shipping documents and ensure proper handling of explosive loads.
- Actively open/close trailer doors, hook/unhook trailers (cranking dollies), and assist with loading/unloading as required.
- Follow all Gardewine and customer safety, and incident reporting procedures.
- Uphold company values by delivering professional, courteous, and reliable service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Valid Class 1 (or AZ) Driver’s License with air brake endorsement, in good standing.
- Minimum 2 years of verifiable AZ driving experience.
- Explosives transportation experience (asset).
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to working safely and adhering to all Gardewine and regulatory policies.
- Must be available and willing to perform night driving.
- Ability to lift and push/pull 50–75 lbs.
- Some shipments require use of a manual pallet jack to move heavier loads.
- Ability to crank trailer dollies (approx. 50 lbs of force).
- Extended periods of sitting while driving.
- Frequent climbing in and out of the truck cab and trailers throughout the day.
