Salary: $2,849.89 - $ 3,738.14 bi-weekly or $74,382 - $97,565 annuallyCommunications and Public Engagement (CPE) is the Government of Alberta's full-service communications, public relations and marketing agency.CPE provides planning, execution and measurement of internal and external communications efforts. Staff provide specialized services across the spectrum of communications and marketing from research, design, writing and social media, to event coordination, issues management, digital communications, advertising and public engagement.CPE staffs the internal and external communications functions in all departments of government, with a mandate of building public trust and connecting with people across Alberta in meaningful ways.For information about CPE, visit .Role ResponsibilitiesCommunications and Public Engagement (CPE) is seeking Communications Advisors (PS3) to join teams supporting multiple Government of Alberta ministries.These dynamic staff are adaptable communicators with strong planning, writing, and advisory skills, a solid understanding of audiences, and the ability to deliver a variety of effective products in a fast-paced environment.Communications Advisors deliver communications services to Minister and Deputy Minister offices, and other ministry clients. They support awareness of ministry priorities and programs, both by working independently and in collaboration with more experienced colleagues (Senior Communications Advisors, Assistant Directors, and Directors) on complex or sensitive files.Candidates who are successful in the selection process will be placed in a Talent Pool. The Talent Pool will be used to create an eligibility list of qualified candidates to fill upcoming opportunities. Applicants not initially selected for interview may be contacted for future positions as they become available.Your responsibilities include:
- Supporting ministry clients by providing advice and developing products that meet their communications needs.
- Developing and implementing communications plans.
- Researching, writing, and editing a variety of products such as communications plans, speeches, key messages, media responses and digital content.
- Supporting media availabilities and media conferences.
- Leveraging social media and digital platforms effectively.
- Using data and metrics for planning and evaluating communications projects.
- Supporting cross-government communication initiatives.
- Applying creativity and innovation to tackle projects and solve problems.
- Creative Problem Solving: Asks questions to get to root issues and generate deep understanding and new ways of thinking about an issue.
- Build Collaborative Environments: Promotes collaboration and positive relationships within and across groups and builds commitment to reach desired results.
- Drive for Results: Taking ownership of understanding and achieving results both as an individual and as part of a team.
- Develop Networks: Looks broadly inside and outside the APS to identify key stakeholders. Actively engages them early and ensures their voice is heard and their concerns are acknowledged.
- Degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Journalism or a related field, plus a minimum of two years of directly related experience.
- Experience in communications planning and product development (e.g. speeches, key messages, briefings, social media and web content, news releases and media responses).
- Experience working both in teams and individually within a communications service setting.
- Client relations experience and experience working in complex environments.
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
