It supports designs throughout the concept, development and production stages of the system life cycle.A professional at this grade possesses knowledge for specific fields and performs structured work assignments. Uses established procedures to solve problems by making judgments and gets work done with quality under moderate supervision.The Mechanical Engineer will play a role in a multi-disciplinary project team developing new and innovative solutions for the Royal Canadian Navy and its partners in the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) domain.Nationality RequirementsCandidates must be eligible to obtain the relevant security clearance required for the role, due to the nature of the programmes we deliver for our customers.Job DescriptionKey responsibilitiesDevelop mechanical designs, ensuring compliance against requirements in all operating environments through analysis and testingCreate, review and approve CAD models, assemblies and their associated drawings and BOMs to applicable standardsCreate, review and approve documentation required to satisfy the project planDevelop and perform design verification tests involving the measurement of key performance parameters to satisfy product qualificationDevelop technical performance specifications and corresponding acceptance testing criteria for sub-contracted workWork with the project team to successfully deliver solutions that meet the customer’s needs, requirements to cost, quality and scheduleWork with the manufacturing and production departments to transition designs to productionSupport cost estimation activitiesEnsure mechanical engineering activities are performed in accordance with company processOccasional travel within Canada, US or Overseas may be requiredRole requirementsBachelor's Degree in Mechanical EngineeringSelf-motivated, adaptable, and attentive to detailsStrong communication skills; positive attitudeAbility to work on Canadian Controlled Goods and US ITAR controlled articlesCandidate must be capable of acquiring a NATO Reliability and Secret security clearanceQualifications / skills5+ years experience developing mechanical systems P.Eng or working towards Registered Professional EngineerExperience designing components using various fabrication methods (i.e. machining, injection molding, welding, forming…)Experience developing products in the marine and defense sectorsExperience developing and running environmental qualification testingDesign and qualification to military standardsTechnical management of suppliers, including development of technical specifications and corresponding acceptance criteriaDevelopment and/or improvement of manufacturing processes and technologiesExperience transitioning a product from design into production2+ years experience using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD toolExperience using simulation/FEA toolsAble to work with and understand the perspectives of other engineering disciplinesReasoning ability: Ability to define and document complicated problems and relationships, collect and document data, and establish facts by direct conclusions or deductive reasoningAble to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a deadline-oriented environmentDiverse & Inclusive EmployerUltra Maritime is an equal opportunities employer that values diversity, inclusion, equity and equality.
