- Coordinate and perform all activities relating to the processing of the organization's bi-weekly payroll
- Verify and enter bi-weekly employee related payroll changes; producing payroll summaries, verifying and editing data input by Human Resources Staffing unit and running various system processes to finalize the payroll
- Entering and updating positions, employee and timesheet information for hourly and student employees
- Review timesheets, reports and hours entered through the web time entry system to identify/audit for possible mistakes and to ensure adherence to collective agreement provisions and University policy
- Perform other payroll processing activities including the processing of government, pension, benefit and union remittances by specific deadline dates
- Prepare and distribute relevant reports as required
- Respond to a variety of inquiries
- Prepare Records of Employment and letters confirming employment or earnings
- Assist with T4 and T4A preparation, reconciliation and distribution
- Serve as primary departmental contact for all general incoming inquiries and information request
- Manage multiple competing priorities, meet tight deadlines, and effectively plan, organize, and monitor payroll-related activities in accordance with established schedules and timelines
- Minimum two-year college diploma in business accounting and certified payroll practitioner accreditation would be a definite asset
- Minimum of 2 years relevant payroll experience, working with integrated HRIS/Payroll systems
- Demonstrated strength in numerical and analytical abilities with a focus on accuracy when processing mass data entry
- Excellent computer skills required including proficiency in computerized HRIS/Payroll systems, spreadsheets and database software
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and a customer service orientation with the ability to develop and maintain productive interpersonal relationships with staff, faculty, professionals and external agencies
- Experience working with unionized environments
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities, meet tight deadlines, and effectively plan, organize, and monitor payroll-related activities in accordance with established schedules and timelines
- Demonstrated understanding and experience working with various collective agreement provisions, benefit plan provisions and CRA regulations
