We are all employee-owners at HDR, which is the foundation of our collaborative culture that connects employees around the world.In the role of Geotechnical EIT, Tunnels, we'll count on you to:
  • Support implementation of Toronto’s Ontario Line Subway Project, a $27 billion 15 km mass transit railway with 9 km of twin tunnels, portals and complex underground interchange stations
  • Support design, engineering analyses, procurement and construction of tunnels, underground and surface infrastructure projects in Toronto and across North America
  • Conduct desk studies, geotechnical investigations, analysis and design assignments
  • Conduct field investigations, including borehole drilling, test pits, groundwater monitoring, and in-situ testing (e.g., SPT, vane shear, permeability tests)
  • Support hydrogeological investigations for infrastructure, land development, environmental assessment and dewatering
  • Assist with geotechnical analysis such as slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, earth pressures, and pavement design
  • Prepare technical memos, data summaries, figures, and sections of hydrogeological reports
  • Prepare drawings, technical memos, management plans, geotechnical and design reports
  • Prepare compliance documents for Ontario regulations and environmental guidelines (MECP, O.Reg. 406/19, O.Reg. 387/04, Permit to Take Water)
  • Assist project managers and senior engineers to deliver infrastructure projects
  • Support delivery of HDR’s engineering consultancy services to budget and schedule
  • Develop professional profile through industry engagement and project engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MSc degree from accredited university in geotechnical or geological engineering
  • Academic transcripts showing university courses completed with good grades
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in field work or geotechnical engineering
  • Eligible for PEO registration as Professional Engineer (PEng)
  • Knowledge and experience in geotechnical site characterization and hydrogeology
  • Experience with geotechnical software (e.g., SLOPE/W, Settle3, Slide, PLAXIS, gINT).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for meetings, design reports and technical memos
  • Available for travel to other HDR offices and remote locations for site work
  • Adaptable and willing to learn from senior engineering professionals
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
  • Experience with MS Office, GIS, and CADD, as appropriate
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
