Alumitech has helped shape the skyline of the Halifax Regional Municipality, and in this role, you'll have the chance to play a direct part in the region's ongoing growth and development.Role DescriptionReporting to the President, the Estimator will support and lead bid preparation and strategy on building envelope projects. In this role, you will develop and create optimized and detailed plans for the execution of the scope of work being tendered, working collaboratively with the fabrication team and various stakeholders to ensure that potential risks and uncertainties that could impact project costs and timelines are minimized.Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for building envelope projects of various complexity, including glazing and cladding systems.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
- Conduct site visits and pre-bid meetings to assess project scope, site conditions, and constructability.
- Collaborate with the manufacturing team, project managers, engineers, and installation crew to gather input on project logistics, risks, and resource needs.
- Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers; solicit and evaluate pricing, availability, and lead times.
- Track and analyze historical data, unit costs, and productivity to refine estimating accuracy.
- Prepare tender submissions, budgets, change order estimates, and cost breakdowns in a clear and organized format.
- Participate in bid reviews and negotiations with clients and general contractors.
- Monitor and update estimating software, pricing databases, and takeoff tools.
- Support the transition of awarded projects from estimating to manufacturing and project management, including scope handoff, budgeting, and forecasting support.
- Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Architectural Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in building construction, architecture, engineering, or fabrication.
- Proficiency in CAD software is considered a strong asset.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to collaborate effectively with project stakeholders.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
