The role involves leading a team of approximately 20 staff across Southwestern Ontario in the practice of designing and constructing civil conveyance projects for public sector clients. The team is involved in a full range of small to large diameter sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and watermain projects, civil site plan design projects, sewer rehabilitation projects and trenchless / tunnel design projects. Projects span from environmental assessments, feasibility analyses, preliminary design, detailed design, construction and commissioning. As the Team Lead you will act both as a leader of the team but also maintain a portfolio of projects where you would be acting as a Project Manager and a technical resource to the team providing mentoring and advice.
You could be located in any one of our offices in Downtown Toronto, Stoney Creek, Waterloo, London or Windsor and would have the opportunity to work on projects across the GTA and southwestern Ontario.
Your Key Responsibilities
As a Team Lead , your role involves:
Responsibility for workload scheduling of team members, maintaining and monitoring utilization while ensuring that appropriate resources are available to address project needs.
Identifying any required new hires or changes to staffing for the team, coordinating the recruitment process and conducting interviews and hiring processes.
Responsible for ensuring the Performance Review process is completed for all team members.
Makes recommendations regarding compensation adjustments.
Responsible for coordinating, mentoring and training of all team members.
Establishes standard procedures to maintain quality assurance standards as required.
Ensures that projects are assigned the required technical oversight.
Provides technical leadership and acts as a technical resource to the team for civil infrastructure projects.
Ensures that quality reviews are completed and documented.
Responsible for identifying needs and procuring computer hardware, software and engineering equipment required for the team.
As a Project Manager, your role involves:
Oversees and manages multiple projects. Responsible for large projects of high complexity. Typical projects or design tasks may include the design of sanitary, storm, and watermain projects, overland flow / civil site plan design projects, sewer rehabilitation projects, and trenchless / tunnel design projects.
Serve as the Project's primary point of contact with clients, agencies and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals.
Manage the financial aspects of projects including completing invoicing, processing and presenting change orders to clients, estimating work remaining to complete, communicating project budgets to the project team and ensuring the project comes in on budget.
Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, client, contractor, subcontractors, and vendors.
Engaging with clients, ensuring a high level of client satisfaction and identifying new pursuit opportunities.
Manage and lead others while working on projects and developing design; assigns, reviews and evaluates work for technical accuracy and completeness; advises on technical problems.
Lead the preparation and coordination of project specifications with construction documents.
Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
Remain current on regulatory policy and rule changes and may establish working relationships with regulatory officials.
Assist and/or lead the development of proposals and contract negotiation, develop project scope, budgets, and design approach for all size projects, and support marketing and business development professionals in positioning for potential projects, writing technical portions of proposals, participating in client interviews and supporting negotiations for project contracts.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Demonstrated leadership skills and experience leading a team of professionals in a consulting environment.
Demonstrated efficient project management/technical leadership of assigned tasks on multiple concurrent projects.
Demonstrated knowledge of client expectations, budgeting, proposal writing, and producing high quality deliverables.
Technical expert in many relevant areas of design and understanding of various design and construction methods.
Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of design and construction codes.
Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
Strong knowledge of civil systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
Strong presentation and communication skills.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering and a licensed Professional Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of experience.
