- Prepare and review detailed cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow forecasts for food manufacturing and industrial projects
- Price and validate civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and process-related scopes
- Review contractor bids, trade pricing, and procurement strategies for accuracy and market alignment
- Monitor project costs against approved budgets and advise clients on cost risks and mitigation strategies
- Act as the Bank’s Representative / Lender’s Technical Advisor on financed food-sector construction projects
- Review construction budgets, schedules, and contracts for lender compliance
- Conduct site inspections to verify construction progress and quality
- Certify monthly progress claims and recommend financial drawdowns
- Prepare clear, defensible reports addressing cost-to-complete, risks, and overall project status
- Administer construction contracts in accordance with Ontario construction practices
- Review and certify progress payments, statutory holdbacks, and final accounts
- Assess change orders, extras, and claims related to scope changes, schedule impacts, or unforeseen conditions
- Support clients through contract interpretation and dispute avoidance
- Coordinate with internal engineering teams (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical)
- Liaise with owners, contractors, equipment suppliers, and lenders
- Attend site meetings and inspections on active construction sites
- Contribute to the development of best practices, templates, and internal standards
- Professional designation PQS, MRICS, CET, P.Eng., or working towards.
- Exceptional Excel skills
- Proficient in Microsoft 365
- Solid understanding of:
- Ontario construction practices and market conditions
- CCDC contracts and bespoke construction agreements
- The Ontario Construction Act, including lien, holdback, and prompt payment requirements
- Ability to read and interpret multidisciplinary construction drawings and specifications
- Strong proficiency in Excel and cost control / estimating tools
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, or a relate field.
- Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in quantity surveying, cost consulting, or commercial management
- Demonstrated experience on industrial or manufacturing facilities, ideally within the food or beverage sector
- Strong exposure to MEP-intensive projects (utilities, HVAC, electrical distribution, process systems)
- Prior experience acting as a lender’s advisor or supporting bank draw certifications is a strong asset
- Strong commercial awareness and financial acumen
- Proven capability to manage and optimize a wide range of tendering processes covering a wide range of technical disciplines.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks at once
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in collaborating with internal teams
- Ability to take initiative and have a high degree of judgement in problem solving
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas, problems and solutions to diverse stakeholders.
- Strong time management skills to oversee multiple responsibilities and deadlines efficiently
- Capability to thrive in a dynamic workplace and respond proactively to changing priorities
- Ability to recognize and maintain confidential information as necessary for the effective management of the company
