- Responsible for managing laboratory analytical, micro & pathogen testing programs.
- Oversees all lab operations including proficiency testing, shelf-life testing and validation, new equipment validation (lab and processing etc.) and maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Provides Laboratory support for extended run and line validation programs
- Responsible for managing and continuous development of laboratory technicians (scheduling, assigning work, and providing training).
- Proficiency in performing all testing in the laboratory. Examples include, but not limited to: Micro, pathogen, utilities, analytical, etc. while following Good Laboratory practices (GLP)
- Develop and accurately maintain records and reports of results from various lab projects and programs using Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Develop written safety procedures that address hazards associated with laboratory-specific operations
- Leads microbiology reviews, maintains, and updates microbiological methods and standards. Audits techniques to assure they meet all laboratory procedures.
- Maintain compliance with environmental regulations, to include proper management of hazardous wastes Conducts
- Be able to lead the overall calibration process (Lab and factory) by evaluating the required testing to maintain / improve calibrations. Ensure calibrations are accurate by analyzing results.
- Evaluate equipment by performing reference control check samples
- Acrylamide testing for the facility
- Support all internal and external inspections/regulatory visits. Support audit preparation activities, accompany inspector, and complete necessary reports and postings.
- Lead microbiological Out of Specifications (OOS) investigations
- Conducts periodic traceability exercises and plant contact for regional recall & withdrawal exercises
- Conducts food safety risk assessments for plant processes, ingredients and finished products.
- Liaison between R&D and factory level trials
- Manages the Foreign Material detection programs (MD, X-Ray Validations, destoner etc.) and drives foreign material reduction programs
- Collaborates with plant engineering and Research & Development in development and implementation of lethality validation programs around Ready-To-Eat (RTE) products, including but not limited to RTE process risk assessments.
- Ensures raw ingredients and finished goods are tested within microbial specifications and releases raw materials to production and finished goods for shipment Interprets results and notifies QA Supervisors and Manager of Food Safety Microbiology of findings.
- Serves as liaison between Plant FSQ Manager, Sr. FS Supervisor (Hygiene) and regional Food Safety to monitor and trend pre-operational sanitation (Sanitation Deviations) performance and microbiological performance of ingredients, in-process and finished products.
- Be able to utilize and critically evaluate data from a variety of sources, to identify root causes, and lead teams towards resolution.
- Ensured adherence to the EMP program as designed by the Sr. FS supervisor
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, or equivalent
- Minimum of 3+ years in Food Plant Sanitation
- Strong technical skills in area of focus (microbiology and/or chemistry) with ability to interpret general technical and scientific results and perform analytical tests.
- Sound mathematical and basic food science understanding.
- Good knowledge of statistics and interpretation of experimental data
- Basic understanding of the manufacturing environment and production operations.
- Detail- oriented, take initiative, and ability to work with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to solve problems ranging from basic to complex.
- Strong project management skills.
- Strong understanding of food safety, HACCP, and basic food regulatory requirements.
