- Maintain and support undergraduate teaching labs, engineering student design labs and laboratory facilities in collaboration with other technical staff in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science
- Responsible for setup, design, fabrication, testing, operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment in Mechanical, Mechatronics and Industrial Engineering focused laboratories
- Reviews and develops specifications to determine set up procedure, machining sequence and dimensions of finished product
- Reads process sheets, blueprints and/or sketches of parts or components to determine the final product
- Assists in the design, development and fabrication of equipment and prototypes to specifications using laboratory equipment such as Mills, Lathes, Waterjet Cutter, Laser Cutter, Tools, Drills, Saws etc.
- Train students, teaching assistants, staff and faculty on the safe use of the equipment and maintain training records
- Participate in safety inspections, lab tours, open houses and engineering accreditation
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and write maintenance reports
- Perform checks on facilities, safety equipment
- Train teaching assistants and students on safety principles
- Assess students' and lab users' understanding of safety procedures
- Enforcing safety standards and regulations in labs
- Participate in health and safety inspections
- Identify opportunities for improvement in current lab delivery
- Develop and implement projects to improve lab delivery
- Update equipment manuals
- Assist with updating safety manuals
- Make laboratory equipment purchase recommendations to faculty members in the area of responsibility
- Support students in undergraduate projects
- Provide guidance on engineering principles
- Provide support for material acquisition
- Provide technical support and guide students through their design projects, including prototype fabrication, assembly, and testing
- Participate and support University events such as open houses, tours, special engagements etc.
- Support photo and video shoots
- Strong communication skills
- Proven excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills for content in a range of styles
- Demonstrated expertise in CAD software such as NX and SolidWorks
- Completion of a Formal Post-Secondary/College/University Program of Four Academic Years in engineering
- A combination of education and experience may be considered for this role
- Verification of Academic credentials will be required
- Minimum 3 years' experience in engineering principles and knowledge of various fields required (mechanical, mechatronics and industrial)
- Experience working with fabrication and prototyping equipment and in a machining environment
