Reports To: Client Services ManagerJob Summary:The Recreation Therapist Supervisor is responsible for the effective operation and delivery of all recreational programming which includes assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating a variety of innovative recreational, educational or therapeutic program activities that will support the achievement of optimal individualized care for the client, and further assists in building their interpersonal relationships and social skills. This position involves direct supervision of activation frontline staff, service, and program development responsibilities with a focus on working co-operatively with the Client Services Manager and collaboratively with staff and partner agencies. The Supervisor is responsible to ensure that the SPRINT Senior Care philosophy of care is implemented in the clients' daily life.Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that activities of the residence support the mandate, mission, vision and objectives of SPRINT Senior Care, while adhering to SPRINT Senior Care’s policies and procedures.
  • Manage the assessment of psychosocial needs of the client to ensure therapeutic programming meets client’s needs.
  • Ensure activation staff is analyzing, and recording clients' participation, reactions, and progress during programs, modifying treatment programs as needed.
  • Counsel and encourage clients to develop leisure activities.
  • Supervise staff in socialization and recreational activities and initiatives. Support the Client Services Manager in supervising team members.
  • Work with clients’ interdisciplinary team to plan and evaluate therapeutical programs.
  • Instruct clients in activities and techniques, such as sports, dance, music, art or relaxation techniques, designed to meet their specific physical or psychological needs.
  • Ensure that the personal care plan for each client is in conjunction with the care team and family and based on the client’s needs and preferences and monitor each client’s progress as it relates to the client’s care plan.
  • Work with each client’s circle of care to support appropriate transition to Long Term Care when needed.
  • Identify areas of risk, and recommend and/or take actions as appropriate.
  • Ensure training objectives and requirements are met.
  • Recognize and communicate training needs of program.
  • Manage and supervise volunteers.
  • Undertake special projects and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation Therapy or Gerontology, combined with demonstrated experience in the provision of recreation services for seniors living with dementia.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a client group environment.
  • Minimum 2 years’ supervisory experience in a unionized environment.
  • Significant knowledge and experience in assessment, program planning and implementation for persons living with dementia, and presenting disengaging responsive behaviours.
  • Ability to establish good rapport with staff, clients, and families.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships internally and externally with stakeholders and partnering agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to be adaptable, build trust, provide coaching and mentorship, facilitate change and engage in continuous quality improvement.
  • Demonstrates computer skills at an intermediate or higher level for the use of the Internet and the following Microsoft Office applications: Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel and Outlook.
  • Demonstrates an intermediate level for database concepts and structures. Familiarity with AlayaCare and Activity Pro is an asset.
  • Being Dementiability Method Certified or being familiar with the method is an asset.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
