- Plan and undertake all required civil and structural engineering design and licensing support activities for the active projects. Activities will vary depending on project scope but will include such things as structural and geotechnical analyses, seismic qualification and assessment, site layout design, and discipline-related licensing submission tasks.
- Prepare engineering design calculations, design documents, 3D models, and engineering packages, for general site layouts, civil earthworks, and early site design structural systems involving multiple materials, such as steel, reinforced concrete and masonry.
- Select and apply the appropriate tools for structural analysis as required, using software programs such as ANSYS, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, and SSASI.
- Identify and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulations, and ensuring the adequacy of design for permits, licensing, and compliance with approved plans, as applicable.
- Prepare all required supporting engineering documents for any licensing submissions related to the civil-structural design work performed.
- Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed nuclear power plant and other new build project site and building structural designs, ensuring timely preparation of deliverables for each stage, such as requirements elicitation and management, development of composite 3D models with other disciplines, capturing analysis results, develop technical specifications, and contribute to project and asset information definition and capture.
- Ensure effective and interactive working with other discipline team members, sharing data in a timely coordinated manner and preventing “siloed” working.
- Perform site walkdowns if required by the project, for example in support of new design requirements definition, solutions ideation, or performing design modifications.
- Review and comment on the work performed by others to ensure suitable scope, accuracy, completeness, and quality of technical information and design documentation.
- Check the work performed meets the quality requirements in accordance with Company QA programs and manuals, as well as the specific requirements of the customer and project scope.
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited university.
- Licensed by a professional engineering organization recognized in Canada is required. A licensed Professional Engineer from a Canadian provincial Professional Engineering organization (e.g., PEO) is preferred.
- Experience designing and providing engineering support to site layouts and construction drawings for industrial sites, buildings and structures is required.
- Minimum of eight years of civil engineering design experience of industrial sites, buildings and structures in highly regulated industries. Two to three years’ nuclear experience preferred.
- Experience preparing and defending all required licensing support materials related to your discipline within the Canadian nuclear regulatory and building code framework is preferred. Awareness of and/or experience in regulatory requirements in other countries is an asset.
- Knowledge of, and experience working within established highly regulated industry quality assurance requirements, procedures, and practices is required. Nuclear industry QA program working experience is preferred.
- Nuclear industry site or field experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated thorough knowledge of Canadian and international codes and standards used in this engineering field is required.
