This position works in the Crime Prevention organizational unit. This is administrative and supervisory work in coordinating the Crime Prevention programs in support of the City’s Community Safety Strategy and regular strategic framework. The work involves supervising directly and through subordinates, full-time and auxiliary staff and volunteers; hiring immediate subordinates; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and providing consultative and advisory services to the latter. An incumbent coordinates, and evaluates community crime prevention programs, activities, services and initiatives; makes recommendations and initiates new policies and procedures; coordinates and participates in the work of Crime Prevention Program staff; prepares a variety of reports, records, grant proposals and correspondence. Considerable independence of judgement and action is exercised in carrying out the work including more complex problems and policy matters. Work performance is reviewed by a supervisor in terms of effectiveness of services rendered. Performs related work as required.Qualifications include completion of grade 12 supplemented by relevant post secondary training. Considerable related experience, including experience promoting community based programs, plus considerable supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the division’s programs, activities, services, and initiatives; of the applicable policies, rules, regulations and procedures as it relates to the work. An incumbent will have sound knowledge of the needs of various community safety partners; awareness of relevant legislation, City strategies and processes such as the Residential Tenancy Act, Burnaby’s Community Safety Plan, and the City’s response to the unhoused. Ability to plan, assign, supervise and review the work of subordinate staff and to oversee volunteer activities; prepare correspondence and reports, draft policies and processes and other documentation related to the work. An incumbent will establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and to make presentations. The incumbent will be required to successfully pass a Police Information Check, and a Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.Salary: $6,200 – 6,460 – 6,730 – 7,011 – 7,319/month (Pay Grade 23) (2024 rates)
