
Building Science (Architecture) Technologist

- Conduct Building and Property Condition Assessments for due diligence and/or capital planning purposes in accordance with the ASTM standards and UniFormat and best construction practices at various client sites.
- Capital planning Building Condition Assessments.
- Review and complete assessments of existing buildings and structures (roof assemblies, exterior cladding assemblies, balcony assemblies, fenestrations, and parking garage structures) to determine design and remedial work options.
- Conduct invasive building assessments and testing (ex. Roof cut tests, water / leak tests, etc.)
- Carry out all necessary quantity take-offs and measurements over the course of a project.
- Development of designs and specifications for restoration projects.
- Carry out construction reviews to ensure quality standards and design requirements are achieved.
- Prepare written reports of findings, summarizing, collating, and interpreting the results of field data and creating detailed AutoCAD drawings.
- Financial involvement and coordination with project.
- Maintain QA/QC protocols.
- Maintain health and safety protocols as well as quality control within the group.
- Perform any other job-related duties that may be assigned.
- Architectural Technician/Civil Engineering Technologist /Construction Technician/Science diploma, B.A. or B.Sc. in Architecture, B.Sc. in Building Science.
- Knowledge with Building Condition Assessments in accordance with the “ASTM Designation: E 2018 – 15 Standard Guide for Property Condition Assessments: Baseline Property Condition Assessment Process" is required.
- Familiarity with UniFormat and asset management software will be considered an asset.
- Experience with building construction or maintenance preferred.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems and building envelope assemblies preferred.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code is required.
- Must be able to read technical specifications, drawings, and reports.
- Experience writing technical reports is preferred.
- Proficiency using AutoCAD is preferred.
- Ability to safely transport and carry 20-foot extension or folding ladder, hand tools and PPE is required.
- Availability to travel and must have a valid driver’s license, insurance & personal vehicle required (work related travel expenses will be compensated).
