
Senior Rotating Engineer

- Assisting in developing the process design for a project or proposal consisting of a normal process unit
- Providing comprehensive engineering and design services by establishing design criteria and preparing, interpreting and applying existing specifications, selecting machinery, evaluating performance, reviewing drawings, models and bills of material in accordance with basic project requirements
- Participating in the design of component parts, individual units and entire rotating equipment packages
- Exercising cost/budget control, and reviewing and monitoring designs for conformance with control estimates and project specifications
- Reviewing and maintaining project schedules, and tracking engineering tasks and deliverables in conjunction with project management
- Supervising the various activities involved in the design of rotating equipment and rotating equipment packages
- Performing preliminary equipment evaluations and selection
- Preparing and reviewing equipment specifications and datasheets for rotating equipment and rotating equipment packages
- Preparing material requisitions and technical bid evaluations for rotating equipment and rotating equipment packages
- Preparing and reviewing equipment lists
- Reviewing vendor or subcontractor quotations, drawings, and specifications for technical adequacy and conformance with project requirements
- Providing fabrication/technical support to vendors for rotating equipment and rotating equipment packages
- Reviewing facility drawings, P&IDs, and general arrangement drawings from a rotating equipment standpoint
- Participating in design reviews and HAZOPs as required
- Providing technical guidance to junior staff
- Interfacing with client representatives
- Maintaining current knowledge of industry and regulatory standards
- Applying advanced engineering techniques and analyses to complex engineering tasks
- Ensuring design is in accordance with applicable codes and requirements, including Vista and client specifications and standards
- Assigning and outlining work for others, and reviewing work for technical accuracy and adequacy
- Actively stewarding change management as related to their scopes of work
- Assisting in the preparation of discipline inputs for cost estimates for proposals
- Providing construction support
- Authenticating documentation with a professional engineering stamp as required
- Preparing and reviewing engineering work packages
- Adhering to Vista Quality Management System (QMS)
- Performing other duties as requested
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in engineering or applied science
- Ten (10) or more years of progressive experience in application of rotating equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, motors, gear boxes, shaft seals, and their ancillary equipment, in the energy industry
- Strong working knowledge and understanding of applicable codes and industry standards including API, ANSI, HI, NFPA rotating equipment recommended practices, and industry standards related to rotating equipment ancillary support systems including ASME B31.3, ASME VIII div 1, CSA B51, NACE, ABSA regulations, etc.
- Extensive experience in development and peer review of mechanical datasheets, technical bid evaluations and clarifications, material requisitions, and vendor document reviews of rotating equipment
- Experience with repairs or reapplication of existing rotating equipment
- Ability to work and collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team including Process, Mechanical, Civil, Structural & Architectural, Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls and Piping Engineers and Designers as well as Project Management and Procurement personnel
- P.Eng. registration with APEGA
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detail
- Self-motivated and efficient in time management
- Ability to meet safety requirements to attend shop and site visits
- Ten (10) years or more of experience as a fully qualified engineer in the design, application, fabrication, repair or operation of a range of rotating equipment in the energy industry.
