Reports To: DirectorThe Senior Pension & Benefits Specialist is a member of the Total Rewards team and supports pension, benefits, and wellness strategy initiatives by providing support on research, analysis, delivery, evaluation and effective administration of the programs and initiatives. This includes providing subject matter expertise in pension and benefit best practices knowledge to support HR and the organization.In this role, you will provide analytical support in the development, implementation and monitoring of all Total Rewards activities including analyzing and monitoring programs, upholding data integrity and providing timely responses to queries and escalations. As well, this position will project manage new programs within the TR function, including Workday Benefits.You will have the opportunity to work closely with many internal and external stakeholders that will have a direct impact across the organization and will be seen as the subject matter expert on all things related to Total Rewards.Responsibilities
- Monitor developments and trends in Total Rewards (Benefits/Pension and Wellness), identify best practices, statutory changes, and gaps in statutory compliance.
- Lead the ongoing administration of both the DB and DC pension plans.
- Perform audits on Total Rewards related processing to ensure compliance with internal and external standards including legislation changes and market movement.
- Identify and recommend opportunities for the improvement of processes and policies related to Total Rewards.
- Lead and participate in Total Rewards new and ongoing projects, from the design to the communication rollout, as needed.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPI) to evaluate areas for improved efficiency and to provide to senior management on trending data, exceptions to policy etc.
- Conduct analysis of benefits and wellness processes and procedures with focus on process improvement and efficient use of resources.
- Take part in annual benefit renewal, related communications, administration and new program implementation and contract management.
- Post secondary education with experience in Human Resources and/or business-related field.
- Advanced proficiency in Workday Benefits and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience administering Group Benefits plans (health, dental, life insurance, LTD, AD&D, optional insurance) and knowledge of Pension Administration (Defined Benefit Pension Plans and Defined Contribution Pension Plans).
- Previous experience in a progressive, complex organization with a minimum of 2,000 employees.
- Strong collaboration, project management & communication skills.
- Strong analysis, critical thinking, problem solving, and discretion with highly confidential and sensitive personnel information.
- Attention to benefit contract and union contract details is a must to ensure that Workday system and employee communication is accurate.
- Analytical with the ability to review and manage Total Rewards program analysis and transactions.
- Strong project management background and ability to work in an agile environment.
- Comfortable creating and facilitating presentations to a variety of audiences.
- Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) focus on benefits and pension designation and/or Certified Professional Human Resources Professional (CPHR).
- Previous experience administering Wellness Initiatives.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
- Bilingualism (French & English).
