
One on One Child Support Worker

- Helping the child to integrate into the regular classroom program.
- Develop strategies and interventions to support participants.
- Build a loving, stable and respectful relationship with the child.
- Help the child communicate their needs to other staff and peers.
- Create a safe and inspiring environment for the child to learn.
- Follow through with all recommendations made by therapists.
- Advocate for the child’s needs.
- Modify classroom activities to allow your student to participate.
- Facilitate small social skills/self-esteem groups for the child.
- Report directly to the team leader with any concerns/suggestions.
- Attend weekly team meetings.
- Complete all administrative tasks given by management and the team leader.
- Complete Ages and Stages according to age.
- Work with the team leader to create an IEP for the child
- Check the child’s development quarterly to measure progress.
- Lead teacher will discuss policy or procedure concerns with the parent/guardian.
- 1-on-1 can discuss daily activities and milestone moments with the parent/guardian.
- Must always abide by the signed confidentially agreement signed agreement.
- If in doubt, ask the team leader if what you’re going to discuss with the parent/guardian is appropriate.
- Responsible Adult Certification minimum, ECEA certification preferable.
- Autism Spectrum Disorder knowledge and/or training; knowledge of complex behaviours
- Must be able to work well with children with diverse abilities and collaborate and identify effective strategies for early intervention and case planning.
- Have a familiarity with the BC Child Care Licensing Regulation.
- Knowledge of early care and learning theories, wise practices and emerging trends, social determinants of health, and supportive, inclusive, preventative programming.
- Knowledge of needs specific to First Nation populations in early care and learning
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to adapt quickly to meet children’s needs
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, with a clean Driver’s abstract (Class 4 considered an asset)
- Valid Criminal Record Check, including clearance to work with vulnerable populations
- Valid Level 1 First Aid certificate (Emergency Child Care First Aid and CPR) must be obtained within the first 3 months of employment; Immunization Record on file; a recent TB Test
- Must be physically able to sit, climb, kneel or crouch and be able to lift/move at least 40 pounds.
