
Design Technician

- Find the information you need to develop your concept by studying specifications, available plans or existing concepts;
- Research and select the parts and components used in its design;
- Develop and prepare 3D models from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specifications and other data;
- Prepare detailed drawings of heavy mechanical equipment (dam gates, hoists, embedded parts, etc.), tender drawings, shop drawings, site drawings and factory assembly drawings;
- Participate to the design process in collaboration with engineers;
- Assist engineers with detailed design tasks using CAD/CAM development tools;
- Select components for heavy mechanical assembly design;
- Check plans for compliance with existing guidelines, code requirements and other regulations;
- Meet deadlines;
- Ensure that its concepts and drawings are feasible in terms of the company's requirements and manufacturing processes;
- Determine dimensional tolerances required for manufacturing;
- Produce a list of materials on the drawings;
- Answer questions and requests for clarification from various stakeholders;
- Define functional dimensioning and geometric tolerancing of components;
- Participate in team meetings;
- Check drawings for compliance with customer specifications and design data;
- Perform any other related tasks.
- Diploma of college studies (DCS) in mechanical engineering, or equivalent;
- Five (5) to Ten (10) years of relevant experience;
- Advanced knowledge of SolidWorks;
- Attention to quality and detail;
- Good analytical and concentration skills;
- Spirit of initiative;
- Excellent written and spoken French;
- Functional written and spoken English;
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team;
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and Inventor (an asset);
- Knowledge of welding and machining (an asset);
- Experience in heavy mechanical equipment design (an asset);
- Experience in hydroelectricity (an asset).
