- Consulting: Provide specialist consulting services to exploration and mining companies. Work with colleagues and supervise junior staff to perform rigorous interpretations and treatments of geoscience data to generate high-quality products and information for use in targeting and modelling of orebody characteristics. Creating and adhering to a plan and timeline within the scope of a consulting agreement is critical. Within these consulting agreements solve bespoke data-driven challenges using knowledge of geoscience and Python programming. Perform site visits and provide technical guidance to clients, as required.
- Business Development: Engage with potential clients and comprehensively pitch relevant products and services. Provide support for data reviews, project scoping, and consulting proposals.
- Collaboration: Active and effective participation in project team meetings and technical collaborations both within the company and with 3rd party partners or consulting clients. Travel as required to ALS Geoanalytics offices for training and project collaboration.
- Client Engagement: Effectively communicate and describe technical aspects to clients in a professional and knowledgeable manner. Participate in generation and delivery of technical summary presentations and reports.
- Professional development: Expand knowledge of techniques and services provided by ALS Geoanalytics by interacting with senior staff around the group. Maintain awareness of the state-of-the-art in geoscience and data science at large through attendance of conferences, online/offline training, and networking, both internal and external.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Assist other ALS Geoanalytics departments (such as SaaS, and R and D), and other ALS business units (such as Geochemistry and MPTS) as indicated by your line manager.
- Health and Safety: Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures.
- Project Supervision: Demonstrated experience in supervising diverse teams to holistically solve challenging problems using the intersection of distinct skill sets.
- Machine Learning and Programming: Comfortable integrating and working with large geoscientific datasets in the Python scientific programming language, and workflows involving Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (Scikit-Learn, Keras, TensorFlow, etc.).
- Communication: Demonstrated capability to articulate complex concept to diverse audiences, delivering clear and concise reports and presentations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English required, Spanish and/or Portuguese are helpful).
- Geoscientific Data Interpretation: Demonstrated skill in performing interpretations and analysis of geoscience data that produce high-quality products. Knowledge of data integration and interpretation methods for a variety of geological environments and mineralization styles.
- Geoscientific Software: Intermediate level user of GIS software such as QGIS, geochemical software such as ioGAS, and/or 3D software such as LeapFrog.
- A minimum of 5 years of full-time, practical experience with an exploration, mining, or geoscience consulting company.
- Demonstrated capability to work with geoscientific data using the Python programming language and implement basic Machine Learning workflows.
- Post secondary degree in geology, geological sciences, or geological engineering.
- Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
- Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required (during site visits);
- Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes sedentary responsibilities.
- An estimated annual salary ranging from $110,000 - $130,000 at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
