- Review, assess, and accept civil and structural design deliverables and engineering calculations from design service partners, focusing on constructability, technical accuracy, and compliance with project requirements.
- Serve as the stop gate for design deliverables, identifying and resolving issues before they reach the end client.
- Evaluate design requirements, quality expectations, and technical criteria for inclusion in purchase orders and contracts.
- Collaborate closely with site engineering teams and construction leadership to ensure that designs are constructible, practical, and aligned with field conditions.
- Support proposal development for nuclear engineering services and engineered equipment, contributing technical expertise during the pre-award phase.
- Prepare and review technical scopes of work, specifications, and requests for quotation (RFQs) for engineering and vendor services.
- Evaluate engineering and vendor bids, including reviewing technical content, cost estimates, and labor estimates for accuracy and completeness.
- Support technical risk assessments and constructability reviews during proposal and early project phases.
- Participate in proposal handover and project kickoff activities to ensure a smooth transition from bid to execution.
- Review client specifications, licensing basis, and design requirements to ensure alignment with project objectives and regulatory expectations.
- Define and manage the scope and oversight of design service partners (DSPs), ensuring they meet contractual and technical obligations.
- Identify engineering and regulatory risks and support the development and implementation of mitigation strategies.
- Monitor engineering progress, schedules, and deliverables, and escalate issues that may impact project milestones.
- Lead and participate in design reviews, site walkdowns, and constructability assessments to validate design assumptions against field realities.
- Review, approve, and issue engineering documents and technical specifications within your professional engineering authority.
- Ensure all designs meet contractual obligations, regulatory requirements, and nuclear quality standards.
- Serve as the primary engineering point of contact during construction, supporting site teams with timely technical guidance.
- Review and issue design revisions and clarifications to support field execution and resolve constructability or interface issues.
- Support resolution of engineering issues, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and field changes, coordinating with design partners and site teams.
- Review construction work packages for design compliance, completeness, and clarity before release to the field.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to project staff, with the potential to lead and mentor additional engineers after the initial assignment period.
- Support the development and execution of commissioning plans for civil and structural scope.
- Participate in commissioning activities, including inspections, testing, and troubleshooting, to verify that systems and structures perform as designed.
- Review and accept test results and commissioning documentation for civil and structural systems.
- Support the review and acceptance of final as-built documentation and system turnover packages to the client.
- Professional engineering (P.Eng) designation in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Strong experience in civil and structural engineering, with a focus on large infrastructure or power generation projects.
- At least 5 years of experience in nuclear or power generation projects, specifically within civil and structural disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience working on projects with a total value of over $100 million.
- Hands-on experience with civil and structural scope related to structural works, balance of plant, tunnel boring, and utility tie-ins.
- Proven ability to review, interpret, and accept engineering calculations, drawings, and technical specifications.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian nuclear codes and standards, including N299, N285, and CSA N286, as well as relevant civil and structural standards.
- Ability to lead and participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, and site walkdowns.
- Strong technical judgment and attention to detail to act as a quality gate for design deliverables.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with design partners, site engineers, construction leadership, and project stakeholders.
- Experience on large, complex infrastructure projects, ideally within the nuclear or broader power generation sector.
- Familiarity with structural scope for balance of plant facilities, tunnel boring operations, and utility tie-ins on major projects.
- Experience working within nuclear quality frameworks and regulated environments.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate engineering and vendor bids, including technical and cost components.
- Experience supporting technical risk assessments and developing mitigation strategies.
