- Registered Veterinary Technologist - Successfully completed a 2-year accredited Canadian Veterinary or Animal Health Technology Diploma Program as a Registered Veterinary Technician or Technologist
- Passed the VTNE or are eligible to write the VTNE.
- Be in good standing with the Provincial Regulatory Association and maintain the required continuing education
- Strong knowledge of physical examinations, patient assessment, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, radiology, venipuncture, and pharmacy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, where able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Compassion for animals.
- Knowledge of preventative healthcare recommendations to answer client questions and concerns.
- Ability to follow Twin Valley VHS policies and procedures.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments by the DVM.

- Must be able to perform the job in a variety of settings, including offices and fieldwork, with the ability to work in outside-weather conditions.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to the following hazards associated with aggressive patients: hazards associated with infected animals and controlled substances, exposure to unpleasant odors and noises, exposure to bites, scratches, and animal wastes and possible exposure to contagious diseases.
- Must be able to sit, stand, run and climb stairs for both short and long periods of time.
- Support the DVM with all medical, surgical, and dental procedures.
- Check in Appointments - Obtain and record pertinent patient histories, vital signs, and weights.
- Perform in-hospital lab testing and prepare specimens for reference labs.
- Dispense and administer medications, vaccines, serums, and treatments as prescribed by the DVM.
- Administer fluids and blood products as prescribed by the DVM.
- Use and maintain IV pump.
- Administer and monitor anesthesia under the direction of the DVM.
- Prepare patients, instruments, and equipment for surgery; and clean, maintain and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials.
- Assure that monitoring and support equipment such as anesthetic machines and cardiac monitors.
- Take radiographs processes rads, demonstrates proper positioning techniques.
- Provide education to clients and assist in marketing veterinary services from which their pet would benefit, such as a dental cleaning, senior wellness, and spay and neuter procedures.
- Educate clients on products and medications sold including dietary products and answer questions regarding product purchase/use.
- Perform client follow ups according to policy and deadlines.
- Maintain legally defensible medical records in cooperation with the DVM.
- Maintain inventory of pharmaceuticals, equipment and supplies
- Maintain all diagnostic equipment
- Collect specimens and perform routine laboratory procedures and tests in hematology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems.
- Assist in diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures using a range of high-tech diagnostic equipment including electrocardiographic, radiographic and ultrasonographic equipment, and report diagnostic testing to the DVM.
- Fill prescriptions per DVM instructions.
- Admit patients scheduled for anesthetic procedures.
- Check oxygen lines and waste gas scavenger system; turn off scavenger system after surgical procedures are completed.
- Perform induction/intubation and all pre-anesthetic procedures, including patient prep.
- Monitor patients post-operatively.
- Clean, scale, radiograph, and polish teeth using dental equipment and hand instruments. Perform fluoride treatments and record dental problems in record and report to DVM.
- Assist DVM with performing oral extractions or other dental procedures.
- Log controlled drugs and assist with inventory physical count.
- Cleaning and disinfection of Twin Valley VHS including but not limited to reception area, kennels, kennel room, radiology room, surgery room, treatment room, vet truck, and large animal area.
- Clean outside area remove fecal material, straw or any garbage to ensure the area appears clean and professional.
- Assist in daily, weekly and monthly cleaning.
