
Litigation Legal Assistant

- Drafting, preparing and typing of documents, correspondence, pleadings and various documents and court forms.
- Preparing, compiling, serving and filing court documents in accordance with the Alberta Rules of Civil Procedure and Practice Directions.
- Preparing, compiling, serving and filing at the Court of Queen's Bench, Alberta Labour Relations Board, Alberta Human Rights Commission, Alberta Human Rights Tribunal documents in accordance with the ALRB and the HRTA Rules of Procedure and practice directions.
- Manage communications and correspondence by phone, voicemail, email, and mail.
- Maintaining lawyers' calendar and bring forward system.
- Preparation of expense reports, docket entries, accounts and other administrative duties.
- Managing and coordinating lawyers' schedules, including coordinating client meetings, conference calls and travel arrangements.
- Manage and respond to client inquiries and conduct follow-up, as required.
- Manage files and records per the policy of the firm and maintain precedent systems as may be required.
- Manage, maintain, and update contacts, client files and client / matter lists.
- Actively support the Legal Support Team in accordance with the firm's standards and best practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Legal Assistant diploma from an accredited college plus a minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of litigation legal assistant experience. Experience in labour and employment an asset.
- Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of accounting / time entry systems and document management systems (Elite and iManage).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Passion for working in a team environment, willing to help others, and comfortable with sharing work assignments.
- Attention to detail and accuracy are required; proven ability to produce a high quality and quantity of work under tight timelines.
- Enjoy working with word styles and proofreading.
- Excellent organizational and follow up skills; ability to exercise sound judgment in setting priorities
- A high-level of discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
- Professional client and telephone manner and a proven track record of working with confidential information.
- Able to work independently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Must have excellent problem solving skills, and the ability to work with little instruction.
- Professionalism demonstrated with colleagues and clients, both in person and virtually.
