- Responsible for the planning, co-ordination and supervision for services inherent in parks and cemeteries operations; supervise the satisfactory completion of all work performed on site.
- Schedule and direct the assignment of work, personnel, equipment and resources for the Unit's operation; instruct Unit staff in the most efficient and effective methods of performing their duties; ensures that staff maintain equipment and are instructed in its proper operation.
- Plan and manage human resources, review work orders for proper distribution, examine daily time entry information and provide cost control on accounts, report on variances, and schedule and approve annual vacations and overtime of assigned personnel.
- Administer burials and cremations, and manage the operations of the City cemeteries, dealing with grieving friends and families in a sensitive manner.
- Manage records and reporting requirements for the City cemeteries, as well as ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.
- Analyze and plan for short- and long-term staffing and organizational requirements; make recommendations for necessary changes to ensure continued efficiency and effectiveness of the Unit.
- Participate in the development and administration of the annual revenue, operating and capital budget, identify priorities, and monitor expenses ensuring budget requests are consistent with the Division operating objectives while maintaining optimum cost-benefit relationships. Make recommendations to achieve current and future operating and budget objectives and goals.

- Degree in parks and recreation, landscape architecture, civil engineering, environmental science, or other related discipline, together with a minimum of 3 years progressively responsible management experience in a related cemetery, municipal or parks operation; or
- Diploma in parks and recreation, landscape architecture, civil engineering technology, environmental science, or other related discipline; together with a minimum of 5 years progressively responsible management experience in a related cemetery, municipal or parks operation.
- Minimum three years of demonstrated supervisory experience in a municipal or parks operation, preferably in a unionized environment.
- Knowledge of maintenance, construction, and operations of parks related facilities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the various components of human resource and financial management.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret applicable municipal by-laws, provincial legislation and related regulations.
