Closing Date: Open until filledThe OpportunityAs the Communications & Engagement Lead reporting to the Senior Manager, Marketing and Communications, you will play a vital role in amplifying DIVERSEcity’s impact and mission through storytelling, content creation, outreach, digital marketing, stakeholder and sponsor engagement, and business development. You will play an important role in developing and implementing communications, content and engagement strategies to profile DIVERSEcity’s work, and support events, campaigns and business development efforts. You will oversee the work of relevant contractors and vendors, while working collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications team to create compelling messaging and communications materials.Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop innovative and measurable communications strategies to support public relations, events and business development initiatives;
  • Implement strategies and develop plans for multimedia, video and social media content;
  • Research, write, design and promote marketing, communications and thought leadership materials, including annual reports, publications, videos and stakeholder pitch packages;
  • Lead the management of all DIVERSEcity social media channels, including planning, creating and scheduling;
  • Handle media relations and government relations for relevant projects;
  • Lead business development initiatives such as developing new ideas and plans for fee-based content and resources, building stakeholder engagement strategies in pursuit of corporate sponsorships, finding and applying for new grants and funding, and devising new fundraising and revenue-generating opportunities along with planning and promoting revenue-generating events;
  • Lead DIVERSEcity’s outreach efforts including being the liaison with programs to increase visibility at both DIVERSEcity and community events and sites, with flexibility to attend evening and weekend events;
  • Provides direction and oversight to external vendors and contractors, including managing invoicing, contract agreements, setting deliverables and reviewing performance;
  • Manages and monitors budgets and revenues related to communications, events, and business development and fundraising initiatives;
  • Lead marketing plans and content calendars for various program portfolios, ensuring consistent and professional communication that fosters positive engagement with funders and partners;
  • Leads cross-functional collaboration with internal teams to align communications strategies with program and organizational goals;
  • Exercises independent judgment in planning, prioritizing and executing communications and engagement strategies.
  • Ensures accountability for outcomes, including evaluating effectiveness of strategies and adjusting as needed.
  • Other duties to support marketing, communication and event planning at DIVERSEcity.
Qualified candidates will possess:
  • A minimum of three to five years of experience in communications, event planning, stakeholder engagement or public relations.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field
  • Fluent, superior writing, editing and proofreading skills, with published journalism-style writing samples and proven ability to create compelling messaging and materials.
  • Ability to follow corporate style guides and ensure brand consistency with a keen attention for detail and proofreading.
  • Strong verbal communication and corporate relationship-building skills.
  • Experience planning and executing successful events including seeking sponsorships, and corporate partners, applying for grants and hiring vendors.
  • Proven ability to manage projects and work collaboratively with others to achieve goals.
  • Experience managing websites, social media and other digital communications tools.
  • Experience in media and government relations.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Interpersonal skills to facilitate work with a wide range of individuals, community and corporate partners, and groups from culturally diverse communities.
  • Ability to work independently to prioritize, plan and produce high-quality work products in a fast-paced environment.
  • Design and video experience preferred.
  • BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle.
  • Ability to work in office three times a week, and with flexibility to attend various events on evenings and weekends as operational needs require
