Job Position: Camp Counselor – (Summer Position)
We are seeking fun, vibrant, and enthusiastic individuals for the position of camp counselor to facilitate Big Brothers Big Sisters of Centre Wellingtons Summer Day Camp URU for campers 8-12/ years old. Camp URU runs from July 8th - August 30th with different themed weeks at the Bhive located at 900 Tower St. S, Unit 100A, Fergus.Position Profile:
The successful candidate loves working with children and has a desire to make camp a safe, happy, and healthy space for youth between the ages of 8-12 years of age. Camp URU counselors are responsible for leading a group of campers daily by role-modeling participation in camp activities, ensuring safety, managing behaviors, and being a mentor. Camp URU focuses on leadership, engagement, healthy relationships, conflict resolution, self-esteem, physical and mental wellness, and healthy life choices. Camp URU counselors are living examples of the content we share with our campers.Key Responsibilities:
  • Model good sportsmanship through interactive, non-competitive participation of camp activities.
  • Create a positive rapport with all campers and parents/guardians.
  • Become aware of all campers’ physical, dietary/medical needs.
  • Provide direct supervision to all campers to ensure safety.
  • Lead groups from one activity to the next in an orderly manner.
  • Complete administrative duties.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Camp Coordinator.
  • Ability to take initiative.
  • Ability to have problem-solving skills.
  • Work in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a social service program in a college or university.
  • Previous experience working with children in a camp or educational setting.
  • Strong communication, organization, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team environment.
  • First Aid and CPR is an asset.
  • A valid driver’s license is an asset.
Terms of Employment
  • 37.5 hours/week Full-Time Contract position for 8 weeks during the summer.
  • $16.55/hour.
  • Reports directly to the Camp Coordinator.
  • This position is available due to funds from Canada Summer Jobs.
