We're looking for passionate and diverse professionals who share our values and are committed to making a lasting impact.About the RoleWe are currently recruiting a water/wastewater treatment operator for our Class III water and Class II wastewater treatment plants in Wetaskiwin.Key ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities
  • Safe, efficient, and compliant operation of a Level III water treatment plant and Level II MBBR wastewater treatment plant, as required and based on standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Observation, preventative maintenance, and station checks of the water treatment plant and the wastewater treatment plant
  • Observation, preventative maintenance, and discharge of wastewater treatment system
  • Shift work when required, working alone and participation in the on-call schedule
  • Perform facility operation and maintenance tasks related to process monitoring and optimization
  • Laboratory and field analysis
  • Reporting and detailed record keeping
  • Responsible for meeting all federal and provincial legislative regulations.
  • Responsible for maintaining required reporting data for multiple stakeholders and agencies
  • Ensure quality control and standard method practices are being utilized to ensure the production of safe drinking water and environmentally acceptable wastewater effluent
  • Provide assistance with contracted utility projects
  • Professionally interacting with all internal staff and external customers and stakeholders
  • Efficiently plan/complete all required daily activities while ensuring that priorities in safety and compliance are always met
  • Investigate and document of any/all concerns regarding water and wastewater
  • Evaluate and advise on all new operation systems
  • Must stay current with all new technologies, standard methods, and legal requirements
  • Remote operational support in other communities as required
  • Other related duties as assigned, which may include, but are not limited to, support in distribution/collection, office duties, etc.
RequirementsQualifications and Required Skills
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada without limitations
  • Have certifications or experience in the water/wastewater field. Preference will be given to water/wastewater treatment plant operators with AEPA certifications in water treatment and wastewater treatment. AEPA water treatment, Level III, and wastewater treatment, Level II, would be an asset
  • Be self-motivated, organized and safety conscious
  • Be able to work as part of a team or independently without direct supervision
  • Have a proven mechanical aptitude, good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Have a basic knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, biology and computers
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively
  • Consistently model Aquatera's values and principles as well as incorporating continuous improvement initiatives
  • Have a valid Class 5 drivers' license (minimum), Class 3 would be an asset
  • Have a high school diploma or recognized equivalent
Conditions of Employment
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and
  • Driver's abstract satisfactory to the employer
  • Criminal record check satisfactory to the employer
  • Pass 50 lb. fitness test
  • Pass comprehensive drug and alcohol test
