The Junior Accountant supports the Senior Accountants and Divisional Controller in maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling bank accounts, and overseeing rent collection. They also assist with monthly and year-end closings, audits, and special projects.About The Role*This is a temporary full-time position of 12 months located in our Ministry Office in Surrey.As a Junior Accountant, you play a key role in maintaining financial accuracy and supporting the overall financial health of Baptist Housing. You will be responsible for processing financial transactions, reconciling accounts, and assisting with monthly and year-end financial reporting. Additionally, you will foster positive relationships with team members and external partners while upholding the values of servant leadership.Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Reconciliation
Prepare and post standard month-end journal entries.
Balance operating bank accounts twice per week.
Record deposits and adjusting entries in bank and general ledger.
Prepare monthly bank statement reconciliations.
Process monthly electronic rent collections and maintain accurate rent revenue records.
Reconcile rent revenue from residents and third-party subsidy providers.
Record intersociety and interbank transfers.
Team Support & Leadership
Provide support and respond to inquiries from team members.
Collaborate with leadership to optimize financial processes and successful outcomes.
Contribute to a positive and engaging work environment.
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure accuracy in financial transactions to prevent misappropriation or financial loss.
Maintain compliance with contracts, privacy legislation, and internal controls.
Participate in audits and financial reporting to support regulatory requirements.
Professional Development & Collaboration
Stay updated on financial programs and systems used in the role.
Collaborate with the Divisional Controller on workflow and deadlines.
Build and maintain positive relationships with team members and leadership.
RequirementsEducation
High school diploma with coursework in accounting or bookkeeping required.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is an asset
Experience
Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience required.
Experience in non-profit accounting is preferred
