- Review LIMS summary reports to plan and organize daily work
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) when conducting work
- Perform sample preparation and procedures prior to analyses
- Perform some basic testing procedures
- Identify any non-routine samples and seek guidance on procedures for handling
- Meet quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements
- Identify and communicate procedural non conformances to Supervisor
- Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples and other materials
- Provide supervisor/manager with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays
- Adhere to Bureau Veritas Code of Ethics Policy
- Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program
- Participate, when requested in department and health and safety meetings
- Participate, when requested in internal and external audits
- Keep work area clean, neat and organized
- Maintain training records and relevant qualifications
- Proactively support in orders of supplies and maintains appropriate inventory levels.
- Act as a positive change agent in supporting Bureau Veritas new initiatives (operational and cultural)
- Execute sound judgement in regard to lab resources in order to meet sample TATs and Hold Times
- Participate in cross training in order to help meet BV production and quality targets
- Perform basic troubleshooting of equipment and procedural problems.
- Perform training of junior Technicians and Assistants.
- Make recommendation, which are scientifically sound for procedure improvement and solving problems.
- Participate, when requested, in method troubleshooting and non-conformance investigations
- Have been a lab tech I for a minimum of 6 - 12 months while providing high quality results.
- Other duties as assigned
- B.Sc. with a focus in Chemistry or a technical diploma
- Experience with GC instrumentation and analysis would be an asset
- Positive outlook with a ability to work in a fast paced environment
